A 21-year-old Chewelah man was arrested Wednesday morning in connection with the death of his mother, according to the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Benjamin Richmond was suspected of first-degree murder stemming from the death of 51-year-old Kimberly Richmond. Benjamin Richmond was taken into custody and booked into the Stevens County Jail.

The Sheriff’s Office was contacted by Kimberly Richmond’s coworkers, who were concerned because she did not show up to work, deputies said. A deputy responded around 10:15 a.m. to the Richmond residence on 700 block of West Jenkins Avenue where the deputy made contact with Benjamin Richmond, who lives at the residence, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities said the deputy was allowed access into the home and found Kimberly Richmond, who was deceased. Benjamin Richmond was immediately taken into custody.

The case is still under investigation.
