Finish line nears for cross country

Cross country is on the homestretch.

In Idaho, Kinsey Gomez has two races left, regionals in Lewiston on Oct. 23 before heading south to state, where the Coeur d'Alene star goes for her third title, to go with a runnerup finish. We checked in with her today.

Meanwhile, the Greater Spokane League is facing its final two meets with more on today's action and the standings below.

The Mead girls can clinch the title by out-running Central Valley's pack today at Audubon. An added attraction is a showdown between two stars, North Central sophomore Katie Knight and Mead senior Baylee Mires. On the boys side, the North Central pack chases Mead sophomore Andrew Gardner. Another meet to keep an eye on is at Seven Mile, where once baten Ferris tries to hand University its first loss. Both the NC and U-Hi boys need to remain unbeaten to set up next week's 3A extravaganza (on Thursday) at Plante's Ferry Park. At Manito, there should be a great race between Shadle Park's Nathan Weitz and Lewis and Clark's Kenji Bierig. And at Seimers, Mt. Spokane girls could end Gonzaga Preps hopes of running for a share of the league title next week.
