A text I recently sent to my two oldest sons was factually accurate, but a bit eyebrow-raising.

Some gardeners would think we are almost at the height of the vegetable season. Tomatoes are setting, corn is more than knee-high and cilantro and lettuce are bolting. But wait! Are we really on the home stretch for our crops? Nope, there is the fall gardening season and now is the time to start planning and planting.

I told myself I was going to the store to buy light bulbs. Somehow I left with three geraniums and a lavender plant, but no light bulbs. Oops.

Here we are at the beginning of the July growing season. Seeds have come up. It’s finally warm enough that the peppers, tomatoes and squash are growing. The weeds are flourishing and after a not-so-cold winter, the bugs are out and about. Here are some things to watch for in July.
