WHL notes: Chiefs trade rights to talented goalie Thatcher Demko

The Spokane Chiefs raised some eyebrows Tuesday by trading their Western Hockey League rights to Boston College sophomore goaltender Thatcher Demko to the Calgary Hitmen for conditional draft selections. Demko, the Vancouver Canucks’ second-round pick in this year’s National Hockey League draft, is expected to be the U.S. team’s No. 1 goaltender for the upcoming World Junior Championship in Toronto and Montreal.

T-Birds send Chiefs to fifth straight loss

If nothing else, Alex Moodie has learned how to efficiently pack a suitcase. The 19-year-old goaltender was traded from the Saskatoon Blades to the Brandon Wheat Kings last week for a conditional eighth-round pick in the 2015 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

The Spokane Chiefs got the maximum results out of 180 minutes – and 14 seconds – of hockey in three days. Kailer Yamamoto scored 14 seconds into overtime Sunday as the Chiefs capped a weekend of three consecutive 2-1 victories by holding back the Kamloops Blazers (11-10-3-2) at the Arena.
