The pack of snow that has been sitting on the ground for months is finally giving way to bare ground in many places. Spokane International Airport, the city’s official weather reporting site, has had 83 days of snow on the ground, with just an inch remaining Friday.
Groundhog-based predictions aside, a scientific approach to forecasting is calling for a change to milder weather through February, maybe mild enough to melt the nasty ice locked on residential streets.
A new poll conducted for PEMCO Insurance showed a 15 percent increase over the past six years in the number of drivers who admit being speeders. Derek Wing, spokesman for PEMCO, said speed brings with it the potential for more damaging crashes and more serious injuries.
