Former manager of Cum Inn Bar & Grill to spend 30 days in jail for defrauding government

A Spokane Valley man who stole more than $230,000 in workers’ comp and federal disability benefits settled a plea agreement in November and will spend 30 days in jail and pay nearly $95,000 in restitution. Dennis J. Bennett, 64, was accused of managing the Cum Inn Bar & Grill while claiming he was disabled. From 2012 to 2016, Bennet recieved about $47,000 from Social Security and about $188,000 in wage replacement benefits from the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, according to court documents.

Idaho State Police find severely beaten woman and infant during traffic stop; driver arrested for possession of meth

During a traffic stop on Interstate 90 in Idaho, a man was arrested for trafficking methamphetamine, and police also found a severely beaten woman and 2-year-old child, according to a news release from Idaho State Police. The suspect, Jorge Gonzalez-Vergel, 59, was driving a Dodge van with North Dakota license plates Tuesday on I-90 in Shoshone County near milepost 46. Gonzalez-Vergel, whose residence isn’t known by officials, was with a 32-year-old female and two children, ages 2 and 1.

Police search for stabbing suspect near Costco in Spokane Valley

A man was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Monday evening after being stabbed by someone he knew near the Costco in Spokane Valley. The stabbing happened under the drive-through cover of the Intermountain Community Bank near Costco. Deputies said both were believed to be transients.
