Police investigating Thursday night fatal stabbing

Police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a man at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday near the 2400 block of West Cleveland Avenue in northwest Spokane, according to a news release. A person of interest was interviewed, but the release did not indicate if an arrest was made. There is no threat to the public, according to the statement.

Sims and Wisniewski aim for Idaho state legislature seat

Kathy Sims and Tony Wisniewski sat in the Coeur d’Alene Courthouse last Friday, awaiting a decision capable of ending the race between the two candidates almost two weeks early. But after a judge declared that Sims could restore her ballot spot – effectively ending a court battle over her residency in Idaho’s District 3 – Wisniewski, her challenger on the ballot, said he agreed with the decision.

Kootenai County Commissioner Dist. 3 candidates speak on building codes, other issues

A crowded ballot for Kootenai County Commissioner District 3 shows some familiar names. In 2016, Bob Bingham edged Leslie Duncan in the last Kootenai County commissioner primary. Bingham earned 29.2 percent of the votes and Duncan earned 28.6 percent, a difference of 69 votes. Bingham then beat Russell McLain, who ran as an independent, in the 2016 general election for the commissioner seat.

Here are 6 recycling tips to learn on Earth Day

Just near Spokane’s airport lies a three-story-tall green machine. Its conveyer belts, claws, wheels, walkways and neon-clad workers sort the 100,000 tons of recyclables per year that pour in from the county and surrounding cities. The machine is housed in a facility called the SMaRT Recycling Center, and it’s where Spokane’s recycling goes after its curbside pickup.
