Hull Blasts Keenan After Blues Victory

Associated Press

NHL

Brett Hull sidestepped three days of controversy, then turned his wrath on the Hartford Whalers.

And the former St. Louis Blues captain saved one last shot for coach Mike Keenan after Wednesday night’s 4-2 victory in Hartford, Conn.

“Any coach who thinks that the players play for him either doesn’t last that long or has delusions of grandeur,” said Hull, who played for the first time without the “C” since the 1989-90 season.

His line, led by center Dale Hawerchuk (one goal, three assists) and newly named captain Shane Corson (two assists), was on the ice for every Blues goal.

“Players play for themselves,” said Hull, who refused to credit the run-in with Keenan for inspiring the play.
