Folk Singer Comes Back To Old Stamping Grounds

Don Adair Correspondent

It will be a homecoming of sorts when folk musicians Kat Eggleston and Andrew Calhoun appear in concert at Street Music on Wednesday night.

Eggleston, a Vashon Island native, attended Whitworth College in Spokane and earned her MFA from Bob and Joan Welch who taught theater arts at Fort Wright College at the time.

She has migrated to Chicago, where she records for Calhoun’s Waterbug Records.

Calhoun is a rising star on the national folk scene. The son of a philosopher-poet and teacher-novelist, he is highly regarded as a lyricist - his work has been favorably compared with such writers as James Joyce, T.S. Eliot and Leonard Cohen.

Calhoun say his influences include Celtic music, American folk and blues and classical guitar.
