Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Back in the ‘60s, your mom bailed me out of a tight situation. I was an inventory controls representative, writing fill-in orders in large discount stores in the health and beauty department. While writing an order, I mistakenly put down 12 cases of rubbing alcohol instead of 12 bottles. The store manager was upset.

When I came in later to write a return slip up on the 11 other cases, they were sold out! Heloise had printed a hint on how to make your own windshield cleaner and the contents included alcohol. Could you reprint the formula? - Fred M. Friedl Sr., Berea, Ohio

Thank you so for writing! I’m glad my mother helped get you out of an unpleasant situation. The home-style windshield cleaning solution you are probably thinking of contains equal parts rubbing alcohol and water. Mix it in a spray bottle and label clearly. Some people even add a drop of blue food coloring. That’s all there is to it! - Heloise
