Postal Service Asks Residents To Put Canned Food In The Mail
The U.S. Postal Service is asking residents in Washington and Idaho on Saturday to include cans of food with outgoing mail as part of a national drive to combat hunger.
Mail carriers will collect the cans on their routes. The food will be donated to local food banks.
The Postal Service is requesting any non-perishable food, including canned, dried or packaged items.
Participating communities include most of Eastern Washington and North Idaho.
Last year, the letter carriers’ food drive netted more than 45 million pounds of food nationwide. Spokane carriers gathered 205,000 pounds. Throughout Idaho, 250,000 pounds were collected. , DataTimes
