Hints From Heloise
Dear Heloise: As you are probably well aware, many people today actually are giving such wedding gifts as china pieces and sterling settings at the bride’s shower. This doesn’t leave much for a wedding gift.
I suggest we start going back to practicality. Following is an example: a plastic clothes basket filled with detergents, fabric softener, window cleaner, cleanser, small sponges to wipe dishes.
Another suggestion is to fill a spice cabinet.
I am presently filling a couple’s medicine chest. How many people think of Band-Aids, petroleum jelly, toothbrushes, dental floss, a package of cotton balls, gauze pads?
Oh yes, just to add to it, I am wrapping each item separately, putting a short poem on top. Also, before I put anything in the box to mail it, I will put a piece of plain white paper with a big red cross in the middle, and the shower card. - Martha, Texas
