Rev. Charles Lyman Colfax, Wash.
Memorial service for the Rev. Charles H. Lyman, 81, will be at 11 a.m. today at Onecho Bible Church near Colfax. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.
Rev. Lyman, who died Sunday, was born in Polson, Mont.
He moved with his family to Bozeman, Mont., where he graduated from Galatin High School. He also graduated from Multonomah School of the Bible in Oregon.
In 1940, he married Marjorie Hughes in Bozeman. She died in 1996.
Rev. Lyman served as pastor of churches in the Oregon cities of Astoria and Charleston, in the Montana cities of Gardner, Jardine, Billings and Helena, and in Sumner, Wash., and Vancouver, Wash. He was pastor of Onecho Bible Church near Colfax for nine years.
He did interim pastorate work at Rosalia (Wash.) Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Spokane, Dusty (Wash.) Country Bible Church, Liberty Bible Church in Pullman, Steptoe (Wash.) Community Church and in Kettle Falls, Wash.
Rev. Lyman was on the board that formed the Northwest Independent Church Extension Organization, now operating in six states. He served on numerous boards, most recently on the Whitman County Chaplaincy Board and the Hill-Ray Plaza Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Independent Fundamental Churches of America.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne; two daughters, Marjorie May Prosser of Deer Island, Ore., and Elizabeth Ann Wells of Steptoe; three sons, James and Charles Lyman Jr., both of Colfax, and John Lyman of Pasco; a sister, Gretchen Sadler of Lebanon, Ore.; a brother, Rev. Tom Lyman of Gresham, Ore.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Idanell Bowers Spokane
Memorial service for Idanell M. Bowers, 73, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bowers, who died Sunday, was a 47-year Spokane resident.
She was born in Jewell County, Kan.
In 1946, she married Don Bowers in Desmet, Idaho.
Mrs. Bowers was a homemaker and a member and past president of the City Homemakers and the Central Council of Scout Mothers. She was also a member of the Northwest Treasure Hunters Club, the Spokane Porcelain Artists Club, the Happy Wheels Recreational Vehicle Club and was a member and student of porcelain painting at Corbin Community Center.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Chuck Bowers of Seattle; a daughter, Charlotte Hamblen of Post Falls; three brothers, Carl Wilson of Spokane, Keith Wilson of Desmet and Clyde Wilson of Reno, Nev.; a grandson and a great-grandchild.
Irene Strom Spokane
No service will be held for Irene C. Strom, at her request. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Strom, who died Friday, was 87.
She was born in Minnesota and moved to Spokane 53 years ago.
She was a homemaker and a member of Millwood Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, Joseph, died in 1986.
Mrs. Strom is survived by two daughters, Arlene Selland and Betty Halverson, both of Spokane; two sisters, Emma Sommers and Hazel Johnson, both of Coeur d’Alene; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Robert Paysee Shelton, Wash.
Graveside service for Robert Paysee, 68, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Mount Hope Cemetery in Fairfield. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Paysee, who died Friday, was born in Colville, Wash.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and later worked as a carpenter, and also worked on the Priest Rapids Dam and as a hydro mechanic.
He was a longtime resident of Royal City, Wash., before moving to Shelton six years ago.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Betty Beery; two sons, William Paysee of Royal City and Robert Paysee of Grapeview, Wash.; two daughters, Debbie Long of San Antonio, Texas, and Gail Estabrook of Puyallup, Wash.; his parents, Ray and Anna Paysee of Sandpoint; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Ward Draper Wilbur, Wash.
Funeral for Ward Draper, 93, will be at 10 a.m. today at Wilbur Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Wilbur Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Wilbur is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Govan, Wash., Mr. Draper died Saturday.
He moved to Wilbur as a child and graduated from high school.
He was a wheat farmer and a member of Wilbur Community Presbyterian Church, the Wheatridge Grange, the Washington Association of Wheat Growers, and was former director of the Almira Farm Warehouse.
His wife, Gladys, died in 1988.
Survivors include three daughters, Marily Sherwood and Wardene Riechmann, both of Wilbur and Janice Fanning of Cheney; a brother, Willis Draper of Heyburn, Idaho; a sister, Mariam Bagley of Govan; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Rex Bean Spokane
Graveside service for Rex Bean, 94, will be at 2 p.m. today at Sherman Cemetery in Wilbur, Wash. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bean, who was born in Creston, Wash., died Friday.
He was a wheat farmer in Creston and was a member of the Washington Association of Wheat Growers and the Creston Community Club.
Mr. Bean moved to Spokane two years ago.
His wife, Elaine Bean, died in 1997.
Survivors include two daughters, June Bagley of Spokane and Ann Krause of Creston; a son, Gale Bean of Creston; two brothers, Harold Bean of Coeur d’Alene and Marvin Bean of Creston; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Edwin Sabie Spokane
Graveside service for Edwin M. Sabie, 52, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sabie, who died Monday, was born in Devils Lake, N.D.
He was a veteran of the Air Force and worked in numerous trades, owned several business enterprises and was most recently a general contractor.
Mr. Sabie is survived by a daughter, Wendi Soulia of Mead; a son, Eric Sabie of Spokane; a brother, Everett Sabie of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sisters, Kay Reis of Great Falls, Mont., and Marilyn Bakken of Bowman, N.D.; and four grandchildren.
Mary Lou Rice Deer Park
Graveside service for Mary Lou Rice, 66, will be at 1 p.m. today at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Rice, who died Saturday, was born in Spearfish, S.D.
She moved to Spokane as a child and graduated in 1949 from Central Valley High School.
In 1952, she married Edward Rice in Spokane.
While living in Colville, Wash., she was employed at the Mode-o-Day clothing store for many years.
Mrs. Rice moved to Deer Park a few years ago.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Dale Rice of Portland; two daughters, Patricia Latham of Cisco, Texas, and Karen Lester of Loon Lake, Wash.; three sisters, Sally Fox of Spokane, Betty Strong of Deer Park and Dorothy Kingrey of Everett.
Geraldine Vogelman Spokane
Memorial service for Geraldine Alice Vogelman, 86, will be at 10 a.m. today at Riverview Retirement Home. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Vogelman, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Sunday.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Charles Vogelman, died in 1980.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Chester; a son, Robert Vogelman; two sisters, Sylvia Meuler and Leona Lawson; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Viana Weissenberger Greenacres
Private graveside service for Viana S. Weissenberger, 90, will be today at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Weissenberger, who was born in Greenacres and was a lifetime resident of the Spokane area, died Monday.
In 1949 she married John Weissenberger in Coeur d’Alene. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Marie Keller of Veradale; and three grandchildren.
Anna McBride Spokane
Funeral for Anna McBride, 83, will be at 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. McBride, who was born in Palouse, Wash., died Sunday.
She was a 60-year Spokane resident and a homemaker.
Mrs. McBride was a member of United Church of Christ, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474 Auxiliary and Northeast Community Center.
Her husband, James McBride, died in 1994.
She is survived by two sons, Dale McBride of Veradale and Jim McBride of Bayview, Idaho; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Kenneth Mast Spokane

Mr. Mast, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Sunday.
He worked as a millwright for various lumber companies.
His wife, Agnes Mast, died in 1992.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Mast of Spokane; two sons, Phillip Mast of Palm Desert, Calif., and Kenneth Mast of San Francisco; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Lillian Spegal Kettle Falls, Wash.
Vigil for Lillian Spegal, will be at 7 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kettle Falls. Funeral Mass is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Mrs. Spegal, who was born on the Spokane Indian Reservation, died Saturday. She was 64.
In 1965 married Joseph Spegal in Coeur d’Alene.
They moved to Kettle Falls, and in 1967 they moved to Spokane, where they lived until returning in 1975 to Kettle Falls.
Mrs. Spegal was a member of the Spokane Tribe of Indians and the Sacred Heart Altar Society.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Randy Kieffer of Spokane, Rodney Spegal of Kettle Falls and Richard Rudolf of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven daughters, Yvon Lawrence, Lisa Hart and Judy McIntosh, all of Kettle Falls, Diane Rudolf of Santee, Calif., Myrna Rosand of Federal Way, Wash., Robin Dobson of Vancouver, Wash., and Wendy Swails of Salcha, Alaska; four brothers, Fred, Dave, Art and Sid Flett, all of the Spokane Indian Reservation; and two sisters, Marge Carson of the Spokane Indian Reservation and Irene Allen of Spokane.
Queenie Diedrich Valley, Wash.

Mrs. Diedrich, who was born in Silverton, Wash., died Saturday.
She lived in Valley since she was 13 years old and worked as a postal clerk at the Valley Post Office for 42 years.
Mrs. Diedrich was a member of The Central Association of the Miraculous Medal, Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Holy Ghost Altar Society and St. Mary of the Rosary Catholic Church in Chewelah.
Survivors include two sons, John Diedrich of Spokane and George Diedrich of Valley; and a daughter, Mary Russell of Spokane.
Roy Reeder Spokane
Private service and entombment for Roy R. Reeder, 82, was at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. Reeder, who died Sunday, was born in Ogden, Utah.
He graduated from University High School in Oakland, Calif., and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a gunner and radio operator on a B-17 crew.
Mr. Reeder worked for the Smith-Corona Calculator Co. from 1935 to 1964 in Emeryville, Calif. He worked for the Chevron Research Co. as an electrician until his retirement in 1981.
He moved to Spokane in 1982 from Davis, Calif.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Augusta; two sons, Donald Reeder of Newman Lake and William Reeder of Antioch, Calif.; and a sister, Leona Brady of La Mesa, Calif.
Naomi (Wallingford) Staley Spokane
Visitation for Naomi M. (Wallingford) Staley, 74, will be from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Funeral is set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mrs. Staley, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Sunday.
She graduated in 1941 from North Central High School and in the early 1940s worked as a receptionist for the Washington State Employment Service.
In 1951 she married Harold Staley in Spokane.
Mrs. Staley worked for Galena Supply Depot in 1944 and 1945, and later worked as a seamstress at Imperial Dry Cleaners, Paris Dry Cleaners, Zat’s Dry Cleaners and Hagen Dry Cleaners. She retired in 1992.
She was was a Cub Scout den mother and was president of Holmes Elementary Parent Teacher Association, where in 1963 she won the Acorn Award. She also was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474 Auxiliary.
Her husband died in 1968.
Mrs. Staley is survived by four sons, Charles and David Staley, both of Spokane, and Keith Bly and Donald Staley, both of Otis Orchards; three daughters, LaVaune Boe and Karen Wallingford, both of Spokane and Kristine Jenkins of North Pole, Alaska; a brother, Reid Wallingford of Ventura, Calif.; three sisters, Grace Burroughs and Pearl Hayes, both of Spokane and Joy VanLippeloy of Tucson, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Thelma Harris Spokane
Visitation for Thelma V. Harris, 82, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral is set for 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mrs. Harris, who died Friday, was born in Opportunity, and was a lifetime resident of the Spokane area.
She graduated in 1934 from Central Valley High School and worked as a bookkeeper at several Spokane businesses.
Mrs. Harris was a member and former treasurer of the Spokane Retired Police Association, was former secretary and treasurer of the Spokane Police Auxiliary and was a member of the Woman’s Club of Spokane.
Her husband, Chester Harris, died in 1991.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Harris of Spokane and Chester Harris Jr. of St. Paul, Minn.; a daughter, Nancy Potter of Spokane; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Louise ‘Lucy’ Krehe Ritzville, Wash.
Funeral for Louise “Lucy” Krehe, 90, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville. Concluding services and vault burial will follow at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Krehe, who was born in Ruff, Wash., died Sunday.
She worked on the family farm and in 1925 married Arthur Arlt.
They moved to Ritzville in 1943.
Her husband died in 1945.
In 1946, she married Leo Krehe. He died in 1976.
Mrs. Krehe was a volunteer for the Red Cross and was active with the Gritman Senior Center.
Mrs. Krehe is survived by a son, Donald Arlt of Ritzville; two daughters, Frances Johnston of Pasco and Shirley Schultz of Lacey, Wash.; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mae Bell Hopkins Wilbur, Wash.
Graveside service for Mae Bell Hopkins, 74, was Monday at Creston (Wash.) Cemetery.
Mrs. Hopkins, who was born in Seiling, Okla., died Friday.
She was a 19-year resident of Wilbur and was a homemaker.
Her husband, Elvin Hopkins, died in 1988.
Survivors include two sons, Eldon Hopkins of Spokane and Ted Hopkins of Creston; two daughters, Tammy Dick of Spokane and Dorothy Crow of Wilbur; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Elaine Fry St. Maries
Funeral for Elaine M. Fry, 66, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. Maries. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Fry, who was born in Chicago, died Thursday.
She moved with her family to Emida, Idaho, in 1944 and graduated from St. Maries High School.
She attended Eastern Washington University and the University of Idaho.
Her first husband, Bob Moe, died in 1958.
In 1958 she earned her private pilot’s license and met her second husband, Ray Fry, at the St. Maries airport. They lived in Santa Maria, Calif., from 1961 to 1972; in Orofino, Idaho, from 1972 to 1975;, and in Colfax, Wash., from 1975 to 1996, when they moved to St. Maries.
Mrs. Fry worked for equal opportunity in women’s athletics and more recently to save the cottonwood trees on the St. Joe River. She traveled to Moscow, Russia, as a member of the University of Idaho centennial delegation in 1987. She coached gymnastics and competed in swimming at the National Senior Games in 1995.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the AN Chapter of PEO and several pilots’ organizations.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Greg Fry of Asotin, Wash.; a daughter, Laura Fry of Boise; a stepsister Phyllis Spurgeon Massee of Mansfield, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
Shelby ‘Buck’ Turner Newport, Wash.
Funeral for Shelby S. “Buck” Turner, 62, is planned for 2 p.m. today at the Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport. Graveside rites will follow at Newport Cemetery.
Mr. Turner, who died Friday, was born in Dalkena, Wash.
He was raised in Pend Oreille County and graduated in 1953 from Cusick (Wash.) High School.
He moved to Walla Walla in 1971 and recently returned to Newport.
Mr. Turner worked for local sawmills and was a mechanic for John Deere Machinery in Walla Walla. He retired in 1991.
He was a member of Pheasants Forever, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the Pend Oreille Sportsman Club and the Locke Grange.
Survivors include two daughters, Torri Turner of Spokane and Kelly Driver of Usk, Wash.; a sister, Arleigh Nelson of Spokane; two brothers, Bernard Turner of Greenacres and Wayne Turner of Walla Walla; and five grandchildren.
Patrick Curalli Spokane
Private inurnment for Patrick Curalli, 96, will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Curalli, a longtime barber and 74-year resident of the Spokane area, died August 18.
He learned the barbering trade in Sanni Condro, Italy, and in 1920 immigrated to the United States.
Mr. Curalli worked for several barber shops before owning his own, the last being Pat’s Barber Shop in the old Pedicord Hotel, which he operated for 42 years.
In the early 1920s, he engaged in prize fighting. He fought the one of the first professional fights ever fought in Washington state, winning many silver cups and prizes in his career.
Mr. Curalli was one of the founders in the early 1930s of the Sons of Italy Lodge, the predecessor of the present American Italian Club.
He was a member of the Washington State Horse Racing Commission.
Survivors include his wife, Louese; a daughter, Betty Riddle of Elk, Wash.; a son, John Curalli of Des Moines, Iowa; four stepchildren; five grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.
