Three years ago, while helping a friend make pickles, Scott Silvers of Spokane experimented with adding some smoked jalapeno peppers to the recipe.

The result is Bayou Bob’s Famous Pickles, specially packed for Silvers by Steinfeld’s in Portland. As well as a heat-seeking Hopping Jalapeno pickle, there’s a milder Great Garlic version using smoked garlic cloves.

But if you’re the adventurous sort, go ahead and pick up a peck of peppered pickles.

Price: $3.50 to $4 for 1 quart.
