Dorothy ‘Dixie’ Burcey Spokane
Funeral for Dorothy N. “Dixie” Burcey, 85, will be at 11 a.m. today at Shadle Park Presbyterian Church. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wilbur (Wash.) Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Burcey, who was born in Wilbur, died Saturday.
She graduated from Wilbur High School in 1931 and married Melvin Archer in 1932. He died in 1939.
Mrs. Burcey then moved to Cheney where she attended Eastern Washington University for two years, and worked as a dental assistant.
In 1947 she married Ralph Schirr and they moved to the Schirr family farm in Sprague, Wash. She worked as a secretary at the Sprague School District for three years.
In 1974 she married Cecil Burcey and moved to Spokane.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Jo Schirr of Spokane; two sons, James Archer of Missoula and Jay Archer of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Barbara Anderson of Spokane; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Phyllis (Steffen) Knuckles Spokane
Funeral for Phyllis J. (Steffen) Knuckles, 70, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
A 27-year resident of Spokane, Mrs. Knuckles died Saturday.
She was born in Griswold, Iowa., graduated from Griswold High School and attended business college in Omaha, Neb.
Mrs. Knuckles worked for the Sunderland Marble Co. in Omaha for a few years before moving to Denver, where she worked for an oil and land lease company.
She moved to Spokane in 1957 and worked as a secretary in the education department at Whitworth College from 1960 to 1961.
Mrs. Knuckles was a member of Fourth Memorial Church.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, William; a sister, Bernice Rogers of Omaha; three brothers, Max, Don and Cal Steffen, all of Griswold.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or Riverview Bible Camp in care of Fourth Memorial Church.
Enid Oswald Spokane
Visitation for Enid E. Oswald, 73, will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Private family graveside service will be Thursday at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the First Evangelical Free Church in Spokane.
Mrs. Oswald, who was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, died Saturday.
She graduated from Buhl (Idaho) High School and attended the University of Idaho, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and was active with the Idaho Drama Group.
She married J.M. “Mike” Oswald and taught school in Buhl for a few years before moving to the Spokane area.
Mrs. Oswald was a homemaker and received a Golden Acorn Award from the Parent Teacher Association.
She was a volunteer with the Red Cross for 17 years, a past president and member of the Indian Canyon Golf Course Ladies Group, and a member of the Airway Heights Evangelical Free Church.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Jeff Oswald of Spokane, and Tom and John Oswald, both of Cheney; two daughters, Gayle Fox of Spokane and Kris Hollingbery of Yakima; and 14 grandchildren.

Paula (Garske) Kienle Mead
Private service for Paula (Garske) Kienle, 50, will be held at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Kienle, who died Thursday, was born in Spokane and was a lifetime resident of the area.
She graduated from Shadle Park High School and was a homemaker Mrs. Kienle spent her summers at the family cabin on Priest Lake, Idaho, and most recently spent time at her vacation home in Newport, Ore.
Survivors include her husband, Gary; a son, David Mackey of Spokane; a sister, Gail Cannon, and a brother, Travis Garske, both of Spokane.

Ethel (Paulicheck) Chapman Spokane
Funeral for Ethel M. (Paulicheck) Chapman, 91, will be at 10 a.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mrs. Chapman, who was born on a farm near Valleyford, died Friday.
She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1925 and attended business school.
Mrs. Chapman worked as a bookkeeper for various companies, including the Washington Auto Trades Association, Eldridge Buick, Mac Marr Stores and Grand Union Tea Co.
She then moved to San Francisco and worked for the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank and the Union Oil Co. for many years before moving to Alaska. In Alaska Mrs. Chapman worked for the Territorial Employment Service in Fairbanks and the U.S. Geological Survey. In 1968 she returned to Spokane.
Survivors include two nephews and a niece.

Marie ‘Bud’ Davis Spokane
Visitation for Marie “Bud” Davis, 92, will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for noon Thursday in the Sunset Mausoleum Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Burial will follow.
An 82-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Davis died Sunday. She was born in Russia.
She moved with her family to Calgary, Alberta, and then to Colfax, Wash., before settling in Spokane.
Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.
Her husband of 42 years, Ray, died in 1972.
Survivors include a son, Gary Davis of Deer Park; two sisters, Betty Linhart and Alvina Hiibner, both of Spokane; a brother, Bob Poffenroth of Spokane; and two grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association.
Roy Marriott Davenport, Wash.
Memorial service for Roy E. Marriott, 85, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport.
Mr. Marriott, who was born in Davenport, died Friday.
He worked as a laborer and a well driller.
Mr. Marriott was the past marshal for the city of Davenport and was a former city council member.
Survivors include his wife, Irene; a daughter, Charlotte Vivian of Ford, Wash.; two sons, Nick Marriott of Davenport and Tony Marriott of Seattle; a stepson, Ken Manke of Wenatchee; a brother, Bill Marriott of Calgary, Alberta; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Kenneth Lovitt Spokane
No service will be held for Kenneth Lee “Kenny” Lovitt.
Mr. Lovitt, who was born in Ainsworth, Neb., died Dec. 2 from injuries suffered when he was hit by a pickup truck while crossing Sprague Avenue in mid-November. He was 66.
He moved to the Spokane Valley in 1945 and graduated from Central Valley High School in 1950.
Survivors include a stepson, Raleigh Clark of Opportunity, and several other stepchildren; a sister, Shirley Lovitt of Everett; and a brother, Jack Lovitt of Spokane.
Clarence ‘Bill’ Boyles Spokane
No service will be held for Clarence W. “Bill” Boyles, 70, at his request. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Boyles, who was born in Berkeley, Calif., died Monday.
He spent his early years in North Idaho before enlisting in the Navy. He retired as a master chief after 33 years.
Mr. Boyles moved to Spokane in 1986, where he managed various mobile home parks.
Survivors include his wife, Marge; two sons, Frank Boyles of Puyallup, Wash., and Christopher Boyles of California; a brother, Bob Boyles of Spokane; and one grandson.

Ruben Lopez Newport, Wash.
Rosary for Ruben M. Lopez, 57, is planned for 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Newport. Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at the Newport Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lopez, who died Sunday, was born in Mathis, Texas.
He moved to Moses Lake at the age 16 and worked on area farms, including the Basin Produce Co.
In 1966 he married Karen Storey, and they moved to Newport in 1977.
Mr. Lopez was a member of the Newport Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, David and Ruben Lopez Jr., both of Newport, and Robert Lopez of Libby, Mont.; four daughters, Jolene Buchite, Yolanda, Lori and Sonia Lopez, all of Newport; his father, Doroteo Lopez of Moses Lake; a brother, Ramino Lopez of Moses Lake; three sisters, Mary Padilla of Yakima, Lydia DeLeon of Moses Lake and Bertha Rios of California; and 13 grandchildren.
Shirley Orlando Spokane
Funeral for Shirley L. Orlando, 74, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Sunset Mausoleum Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Burial will follow. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 55-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Orlando died Saturday. She was born in Whitefish, Mont.
She worked as an arms instrument mechanic in Boise during World War II and later at Merle Norman’s Studio before moving to Spokane.
Mrs. Orlando was the owner of Geno’s Pizza on North Hamilton for 35 years.
She was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and Spokane Club.
Her husband, Eugene, died in 1977.
Survivors include two daughters, Gina Orlando of Spokane and Pamela Scott of Ephrata, Wash.; a brother, James Connelly of Seattle; and two grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children.
Harold Weaver Spokane
Funeral for Harold G. Weaver, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Sunset Mausoleum Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Burial will follow. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Weaver died Sunday.
He graduated from Rogers High School and worked as a delivery driver for The Crescent department store for more than 40 years.
Mr. Weaver was a member of the Teamsters Union, the Methodist Church and Eagles Lodge No. 2.
He was also an avid bowler and was active with the Impala Bowling League.
His wife, Eleanor, died in 1991.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Weaver of Spokane and Richard Weaver of West Point, Va.; four daughters, Nancy Skog and Jacquie Byrum, both of Spokane, Bonnie Anderson of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Donna Hoover of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, Vivian Conn of Moses Lake; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Gordon ‘Bob’ Saulmon Apache Junction, Ariz.
Memorial service for former Spokane resident, Gordon Robert “Bob” Saulmon, 73, was held in Apache Junction. Burial was at Highland Cemetery in Great Falls, Mont.
Mr. Saulmon, who was born in Great Falls, died Dec. 2.
He graduated from Great Falls High School and served with the Navy Seabees in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
Mr. Saulmon married Janice Helseth in 1956, and worked for Muzak Inc., in Spokane for 20 years. He retired in 1984.
He spent his winters in Arizona, moving there last September.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Robin Smith of Great Falls; a son, Bob Saulmon of Connell, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.
Ellen Lentes Liberty Lake
Funeral for Ellen E. Lentes, 68, is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Entombment will be at Pines Cemetery.
Mrs. Lentes, who died Saturday, was born in Waterville, Wash.
She married William Lentes in 1950, and was the co-founder and secretary for 39 years of Dellen Wood Products of Spokane.
Mrs. Lentes spent winters in Arizona.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, David, Richard and Randal Lentes; two sisters, Mary Huhta and Clara Cavanaugh; and three grandchildren.
Flossie (Snider) Hammer Seattle
Memorial service for Flossie A. Snider, 106, was held in Seattle. Burial was at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane.
Mrs. Hammer, who was born in Creston, Wash., and raised in Tekoa, Wash., died Nov. 10.
In 1911 she married Lucius Hammer. They moved to Spokane in 1928.
Mrs. Hammer worked at The Crescent department store for a short time and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Christian Church in Tekoa, Neighbors of Woodcraft, Daughters of America and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Women’s Auxiliary, which she also served as president and as a national convention delegate.
She had been living at The Academy retirement home before moving to Seattle in 1996.
Her husband died in 1953.
Survivors include a daughter, Muriel Connerton of Seattle; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Betty McLean Addy, Wash.
Funeral for Betty D. (Moore) McLean, 68, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Colville (Wash.) United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. McLean, who was born in North Little Rock, Ark., died Dec. 3.
She was raised in North Little Rock and worked at a department store in Arkansas before moving to Colville in 1952.
In 1953 she married Nick McLean. They farmed near Addy.
Mrs. McLean was a member of the Colville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Vicki Digilio of Las Vegas; a son, Rod McLean of Addy; her mother, Ava Howerton of Moore, S.C.; a sister, Othello Anderson of Moore; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Gene Watts Deer Park
No service will be held for Gene Watts. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Watts, who was born in What Cheer, Iowa, died Dec. 2. He was 63.
He served with the Air Force during the Korean War and later served with the Army Reserves for several years.
Mr. Watts moved to the Spokane area in the early 1960s and worked as a carpenter in home and commercial construction.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3067.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra; a son, Dwayne Watts of Deer Park; two daughters, Janee and Caitlyn Rij, both of Loon Lake, Wash.; three brothers, John Watts of Spokane, and Louie and Dick Watts, both of Iowa; three sisters, Darlene Denison, Marcene Rauch and Marilyn Ward, all of Iowa; and two grandchildren.
