‘Governor’ Essay Contest Winners Announced
Coeur d’Alene students Daniel Cooper, of Winton Elementary, and Alicia Sullivan, of Bryan Elementary, were both chosen as winners in the Idaho Public Television’s “If I Were Governor” Essay Contest.
Contest participants wrote essays about what they would do if they were the state’s chief executive. Videotapes of the essays will be aired during Gov. Dirk Kempthorne’s inauguration airing on IdahoPTV Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. and again at 8 p.m.
Local kindergarten, first-, second- and third-grade students were recently selected out of hundreds of entries in the statewide Idaho Public Television 1998 Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest.
Winners are:
Heather M. Bennett, a Hayden second-grader took first place with her story, “The Pink False Tooth.”
Rachel Mae Haynes, a Plummer third-grader won first place for her entry, “A Day on Grandpa’s Farm.”
Grace Nelson, a Moscow second-grader took third place for “Little Cloud’s Adventure.”
Lisa Saladin, a Moscow first-grader won second place for “My Snow Dog.”
Matthew C. Soumas, a Coeur d’Alene first-grader won third place with his entry, “My Lizard.”
Kendra Phillips, a Priest Lake third-grader won third place for her story, “Be My Friend.”
Andrakay J. Hoisington, a Moyie Springs third-grader placed second for her entry, “The Day I Was Two Inches Tall.”
Heather Camille Marian Green, a Sandpoint kindergartner took third place with her story, “The Little Girl’s Kitten.”
Bradley James Killmar, a Kamiah third-grader placed third with the entry, “Bill’s Adventure.”
First-place winners will be entered in the national contest with selected winners to be announced in June.
Robin Konkright, from St. Maries, was a candidate to receive a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Idaho at the December commencement ceremony held recently.
