Harley Reckord Spokane

Visitation for Harley V. Reckord, 87, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Plymouth Congregational Church. Burial was previously held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Reckord, who was born in Beloit, Wis., died Monday.

An 80-year Spokane resident, he attended North Central High School and played the drums in the band.

During his senior year he toured with the band in China, the Philippines and San Francisco. He graduated in 1928.

Mr. Reckord served, and played in a band, with the Army Air Corp in 1942. He was stationed at Fort George Wright and in Colorado Springs.

He owned and operated Harley Record’s House of Music for 12 years before selling the store in 1962.

Mr. Reckord was the president of Musicians Union Local 105. He retired in 1974.

He played drums for the Spokane Symphony for many years.

Mr. Reckord was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church, Audubon Park Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, El Katif Shrine, Musicians Union Local 105, El Katif Shrine Band and Spokane Rotary Club 21, where he was also a Paul Harris Fellow and chairman of the Greeters committee.

His wife, Helen, died in 1992.

Survivors include a son, Harley Reckord of Spokane; a brother, Keith Reckord of Spokane; and one granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children or Rotary Club 21.

Mirth (MacArthur) Williamson Pullman

Funeral service for Mirth (MacArthur) Williamson, 95, will be today at 10 a.m. at the Palouse (Wash.) Federated Church. Burial will follow at the Moscow (Idaho) Cemetery. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Williamson, who was born on Moran Prairie in south Spokane, died Friday.

She graduated from high school in Coeur d’Alene and was selected Princess Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Williamson graduated from University of Idaho, where she was a charter member of the Alph Chi Omega sorority.

She taught school in Granger, Wash., for two years and in 1928 married Frank Williamson.

In 1934 Mrs. Williamson and her husband moved to Palouse, where they owned and managed Williamsons’ Department Store until 1970.

Her husband died in 1983.

In 1998 she moved to the Palouse Hills Nursing Center.

Mrs. Williamson was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and Palouse Chapter AE of PEO.

Survivors include her son, Jack Williamson of Coeur d’Alene; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Gary Lane Spokane

Memorial service for Gary Lane, 54, will be at 9 a.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Lane, who was born in Los Angeles, died Monday.

A 40-year Spokane resident, he was a member of the first graduating class of Shadle Park High School in 1962.

Mr. Lane served with the Navy during the Vietnam War on a helicopter gunship crew.

In 1974 he married Deborah Fitts.

Mr. Lane had worked as a bus driver for the Spokane Transit Authority since 1975.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert and John Lane, and a daughter, Michelle Ludwick, all of Spokane; his stepfather, Bill Watson of Ukiah, Calif.; two brothers, Ron Graves of Veradale and Vincent Watson of Belfair, Wash.; a sister, Sue Stickle of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Spokane.

Margaret Hawkins Medical Lake

Graveside service for Margaret Lynn Hawkins, 56, will be at noon today at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

A 40-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Hawkins, died Friday. She was born in Lander, Wyo.

She graduated from North Central High School and worked as a licensed practical nurse for many years in various nursing homes.

Survivors include her husband, Stanley; and a daughter, Lorie Martin of Clarkston, Wash.

Dean Canaday Cusick, Wash.

No service will be held for Dean Canaday, 63, at his request. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Canaday, who was born in Boise, died Friday.

He grew up in Ola, Idaho, and attended school in Emmett, and worked on the family ranch.

Mr. Canaday served with the Air Force during the Korean War and and then returned to ranching in the Boise area.

He later worked as a long-haul trucker for Del Johnson Trucking and moved to Cusick in 1991.

Mr. Canaday was a member of the Cusick American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie; four sons, Bill Canaday of Wasilla, Alaska, Kenny Canaday of Washington, Ted Canaday of Emmett and Corky Kramer of Cusick; a stepson, Darrel Kramer of Post Falls; two daughters, Debbie Ivy of Dallas, Ore., and Tammy Burke of Castle Rock, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Terridee Harris of Coeur d’Alene; a foster daughter, Lena Glennon of Mead; two brothers, Jim Canaday of Belfair, Wash., and John Canaday of Alaska; numerous other stepchildren, 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Leonard Willis Colfax, Wash.

Funeral service for Leonard W. Willis, 71, will be at 1 p.m. today at Bruning Funeral Home Chapel in Colfax. Burial with military honors will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Steptoe, Wash.

Mr. Willis, who was born in Spirit Lake, Idaho, died Friday.

He served with the Army during World War II and was involved with the Battle of the Bulge. He was with the first troops sent to Korea.

After his discharge from the Army, Mr. Willis moved to Whitman County and worked as a foreman on the construction of Lower Granite Dam.

Mr. Willis lived in Endicott, Wash., from 1972 to 1984 before moving to Steptoe.

He married Dorothy Dodds in 1978 and they moved to Colfax in 1992.

Mr. Willis was a member of the Methodist Church, National Rifle Association and the Presidents 100 Shooting Club.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Leonard Willis of Johnstown, Iowa, Larry Willis of Elko, Nev., and Tiann Willis of Florence, Colo.

Delma (Carlson) Sawyer Potlatch, Idaho

No services will be held for Delma (Carlson) Carter Sawyer, 87, at her request. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Sawyer, who was born in Moscow, Idaho, died Sunday.

She married Charles Carter in 1931, and they made their home east of Moscow, where they farmed until 1948.

In 1948 they moved to Potlatch, where they purchased and operated the Farm and Loggers Supply until 1956.

In 1956 they started Carter’s Log Inn Restaurant in Potlatch.

She married Harry Sawyer in 1973 and retired in 1974.

In 1997 she moved to Latah Health Services in Moscow.

Mrs. Sawyer was a member of the Moscow Eagles Lodge, Potlatch American Legion Auxiliary and Royal Neighbors at Potlatch.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Carter of Moscow, and Kenneth and James Carter, both of Potlatch; her companion, Harry Sawyer, Potlatch; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Potlatch Ambulance Fund.

Royal Schluneger Onecho, Wash.

Funeral service for Royal Schluneger, 81, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Colfax, Wash. Burial will follow at Onecho Cemetery.

Mr. Schluneger, who was born in Colfax, died Sunday.

He married Carol Gay in 1949.

Mr. Schluneger was a farmer for many years and retired in 1995.

He was a member of the Wilcox Grange.

His wife died in 1984.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Schluneger of Colfax.

Mary (Rusick) Klemmer Ritzville, Wash.

Private service will be held for Mary A. (Rusick) Snodgrass Klemmer, 82, at a later date. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Klemmer, who was born in El Segundo, Calif., died Saturday.

In 1934 she graduated from high school in El Segundo. She married Cecil Snodgrass in 1946, and they moved to Twisp, Wash., for a short time and then to Brewster, Wash., in 1948.

Her husband died in 1971.

In 1974 Mrs. Klemmer moved to Ritzville to be near her daughter.

She married Stanley Klemmer in 1975.

Mrs. Klemmer worked for several years in housekeeping at the Top Hat Motel. She had also worked in hospice care and taking care of elderly people in their homes.

She was a member of CJ Newman American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Melvin Snodgrass of Spokane and Steve Snodgrass of Silverdale, Wash.; three daughters, Betty Sullivan of Ritzville, Shirley Groomes of Okanogan, Wash., and Rosemary Harder of Brewster; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Harold Hoffman Maple Valley, Wash.

Visitation for Harold G. Hoffman, 88, will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton, Wash. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home in Spokane. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Hoffman, who was born in Spokane, died Sunday.

He was a teacher, principal and superintendent of the Trent and later East Valley School District in Spokane for more than 40 years. He retired in 1968 Mr. Hoffman moved to the Seattle area and headed the drivers’ education program at the Highline School District for two years. He retired in 1970.

Mr. Hoffman was a member of the Spokane Elks.

His wife, Peggy, died in 1990.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph Hoffman of Otis Orchards and Harold Hoffman Jr. of Edgewood, Wash.; two daughters, Suzanne Colombi of Maple Valley, Wash., and Kathryn Milke of Seattle; 10 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Marvin Dietrich Davenport, Wash.

Funeral service for Marvin A. Dietrich, 77, will be at 2 p.m. today at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial will occur at a later date at Zion Hill Cemetery in Rocklyn, Wash.

A lifetime Davenport resident, Mr. Dietrich, died Sunday.

He graduated from Harrington (Wash.) High School in 1940, and served with the Army during World War II.

Mr. Dietrich married Marlene Cournoyer in 1975.

He was a farmer in Rocklyn until 1989. He moved to Davenport, where he continued farming until retiring in 1993.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kevin and Philip Drapeau of South Dakota; five daughters, Denise Willey of Spokane, Julia Jacobson and Karen Neely, both of Davenport, Faye Drapeau of Norfolk, Neb., and Laura Drapeau of Albuquerque, N.M.; 32 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Faye Johnson Spokane

Funeral service for Faye L. Johnson, 79, was Monday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 16th Ward. Riplinger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Antlers, Okla., died Friday.

A 30-year Spokane resident, she owned and operated a private investigation firm with her husband for many years.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 16th Ward.

Survivors include five daughters, Norma Walker and Nancy Terrell, both of Spokane, Debra Over of Kent, Wash., Sheila Ridings of Corrales, N.M., and Tanya Krom of Rio Rancho, N.M.; two stepdaughters, Marlene Gralapp of Reardan, Wash., and Maryann Sherman of Vancouver, Wash.; three sisters, Eunice Gray of Yuma, Ariz., Marjorie Teach of Creston, Calif., and Mae Willis of Spencer, Ohio; 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

LeRoy Howe Spokane

Memorial service for LeRoy Lucius Howe, 77, will be at 10 a.m. today at Hope Lutheran Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Howe, who was born in Hunters, Wash., died Friday.

He served as a sergeant with the 271st Army Infantry during World War II.

He was a truck driver in the construction industry for many years.

A 65-year Spokane resident, Mr. Howe was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435, Valley Eagles Aerie 3433, Tri Community Grange 1008 and Teamsters Union Local 690. He served with the Civil Conservation Corps at Camp Icicle in Leavenworth, Wash.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Berniece; a son, Doug Howe of Spokane; three daughters, Judy Stansbury of Spokane, Gloria Henning of Otis Orchards and Nancy Smith of Post Falls; four sisters, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

J. June Booker Spokane

Memorial service for J. June Booker, 76, will be at 7 p.m. today at the Valley Church of Christ. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Booker, who was born in Staples, Minn., died Saturday.

In 1942 she married George Booker, and they lived in Calder, Idaho, and Springfield, Ill., before moving to Spokane in 1976.

Mrs. Booker worked for the Ben Franklin Insurance Co. in Springfield, Ill., for 21 years.

After moving to Spokane she worked for the Quiky Box until her health forced her to retire.

She was a member of Valley Church of Christ.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Daniel Booker of Coeur d’Alene; two daughters, Alice Miller of Veradale and Joanna Tucker of Taylorville, Ill.; a brother, David Thorp of Spokane; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Edwin Deppner Rocklyn, Wash.

Funeral service for Edwin Deppner, 103, will be at 11 a.m. today at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial will follow at Zion Hill Cemetery in Rocklyn, Wash.

A 96-year Rocklyn resident, Mr. Deppner died Saturday.

He was born in the village of Kora, Volynia, Russia, and in 1923 married Emily McLaughlin.

Mr. Deppner served with the Army during World War I and was a wheat farmer for several years.

Mr. Deppner was a charter member of Davenport (Wash.) Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include a son, Arthur Deppner, and two daughters, Esther Kik and Edwina Mielke, all of Davenport; a brother, Donald Stople of Winnipeg, Manitoba; eight grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Terry Herrick Deer Park

Memorial service for Terry Lee Herrick, 47, will be at 7 p.m. today at Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park.

Mr. Herrick, who was born in Harlan, Iowa, died Tuesday.

In the 1970s he served with the Army and later moved from California to Loon Lake, Wash., Deer Park and Spokane.

In 1996 he married Cathy Hill. He owned and operated an interior remodeling business.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Scott Herrick of Spokane; two stepdaughters, Cassie and Camie Hill, both of Deer Park; his mother and stepfather, Phyllis and Jack LaBelle of Deer Lake, Wash.; his stepmother, Barbara Herrick of California; two sisters, Dana Homares of Spokane and Leslie McBurnett of California; a stepsister, Gayle Herrick of California; and five stepbrothers, Michael LaBelle of Spokane, Dan LaBelle of Deer Lake, Wash., Larry LaBelle of Suncrest, Wash., and Dale and Raymond Herrick, both of California.

Donald Huguenin Addy, Wash.

Funeral service for Donald Gene Huguenin, 35, will be at 1 p.m. today at New Life Christian Center in Addy. Burial will follow at Summit Valley (Wash.) Cemetery. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Huguenin, who was born in Colville, Wash., died Friday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

He worked for Patburg Logging.

In 1996 he married Darlene Zerba and moved to Addy from Spokane.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Andrew Schneider of Deer Park; two daughters, Josephine and Julianne Huguenin, both of Addy; his father, Alfred Huguenin of Colville; his mother and stepfather, Alice and Pat Moore, and a brother, Dennis Huguenin, all of Chewelah; a stepbrother, Shawn Moore of Stanwood, Wash.; and two stepsisters, Teri Jenkins and Valrie Quillin, both of Stanwood.

Edith ‘Marie’ Hayes Silverton, Idaho

Service for Edith Elliott “Marie” Hayes, 91, was Tuesday at Silver Wood Good Samaritan Center in Silverton. Burial took place at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hayes, who was born in Missouri, died Saturday.

She lived in Kansas before moving to the Silver Valley in 1936 and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Hayes ran a boarding house in Mullan, Idaho.

Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Charlie; five sons, Jerry Hayes of Osburn, Idaho, Jim Hayes of Bingen, Wash., Jack Hayes of White Salmon, Wash., Marvin Hayes of Spokane and Kenneth Hayes of Mullan; a daughter, Naomi Komberec of Spokane; a sister, Opal Oakes of Spokane; 28 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Theodore Steinke Spokane

Visitation for Theodore D. Steinke, 76, will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church. Private burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Steinke died Sunday in Palm Springs, Calif.

He graduated from West Valley High School and served with the Army during World War II.

He worked as a mechanical engineer at Kaiser Trentwood for more than 25 years. He retired in 1983.

His first wife, Anna, died in 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Jayne; a son, Daniel Steinke of Veradale; a daughter, Linda Dizmang of Kennewick; a sister, Phyllis Tweedy of Spokane; and three grandchildren.
