At age 29 - and with a reported $16 million in the bank - Danish supermodel Helena Christensen is retiring from the runway.
Christensen was one of five fashion models, along with Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Claudia Schiffer, who achieved worldwide celebrity status and inspired the title “supermodel.”
But the thrill is gone, she told The Express newspaper of London: “I’ve stopped working for around three months now. I just made the decision and stopped. It’s a job you can only do for a certain amount of time. You get to a point where you can’t take it any further - the challenge wasn’t there for me any more; it didn’t excite me.
“Of course it is wonderful in many ways, but you’re a product at the end of the day. No one is interested in what is going on in your head.”

Elizabeth Scarlett Jagger, the 14-year-old daughter of Rolling Stone Mick Jagger and former model Jerry Hall, has been signed to model for Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label line, which the London Telegraph describes as geared to “affluent 13- to 18-year-olds.” The younger Jagger made her debut at a Paris show last week accompanied by her mom, who told reporters: “She said she doesn’t want to walk like me.”
That’s what you get for horsing around
Xuxa Meneghel, hostess of a popular Brazilian children’s TV show, gave birth Tuesday to a son by Luciano Szafir, one of that country’s top models - just days after Szafir had announced their relationship was over. Meneghel had said she didn’t plan to marry Szafir, his mother has called him “an idiot” and his father said he didn’t much like his son being used as a “luxury stud.”
