Edwina ‘Eddie’ Thompson Hope, Idaho

A gathering for Edwina Joan “Eddie” Thompson, 66, will be today at 4 p.m. at the family home at 302 Old School Road in East Hope.

Mrs. Thompson, who was born in Corvallis, Ore., died Friday.

In 1951 she moved to Texas, and in 1963 to Oregon, where she worked on a cattle ranch.

Mrs. Thompson moved to Hope in 1972 and owned the Trestle Creek Inn until 1974.

She also worked at the Cabinet Gorge Fish Hatchery, Holiday Shores Cafe, Murphy’s Lounge and The Beyond Hope Resort.

Mrs. Thompson was a longtime member of Bonner County Search and Rescue.

Survivors include her husband, Ned; three children, Gene Dunn of Hope, Idaho, and John Dunn and Jerri Harris, both of Texas; four stepchildren, Theresa Strickland and Ned Thompson Jr., both of Sandpoint, Shawn Thompson of Hope and Julie Thompson of Harrison, Idaho; a sister, Carol Conrad of Oregon; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Robert Jackson Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Robert Jackson, 83, will be at 2 p.m. today at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at the niche wall at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Jackson, who was born in Montana, died Saturday.

He grew up in Tumwater and Oroville, Wash., and had also lived in Omak, Wash., where he worked as an auto supply clerk and operated an apple orchard.

Mr. Jackson then owned a motel in Marysville, Wash. for many years before moving to Dalton Gardens in 1954.

He worked in the home construction business and also owned Dalton Market. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the Dalton Water Board.

Mr. Jackson was a member of the North Idaho Building Contractors Association and the Good Sam Club.

His first wife, Lillian, died in 1976.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel; four sons, Allan Geuin of Coeur d’Alene, Ronald Geuin of Olympia, Bill Porter of Michigan and Kevin Porter of California; a brother, Earl Jackson of Montana; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Daryl Wood Colfax, Wash.

Funeral for Daryl W. Wood, 86, will be at 11 a.m. today at Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wood, who was born in Lennox, Iowa, died Saturday.

In 1933 he married Veda Eaton in Shelley, Idaho, and they lived and worked in Idaho Falls until moving to Colfax in 1942.

He worked for Rogers Bros. Seed Co. in Colfax and Spokane. In 1953 he began farming in Colfax.

Mr. Wood then worked in the Street Maintenance Department for the city of Colfax until his retirement in 1976.

His first wife, Veda, died in 1986, and his second wife, Ada, died in 1996.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Wood of Colfax and Bill Wood of Princeton, Idaho; two sisters, Dorothy Fager and Bette Nelson, both of Idaho Falls; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Roland ‘Spike’ Walker Tensed, Idaho

Graveside service for Roland C. “Spike” Walker, 86, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Walker, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Monday.

He grew up in Santa, Idaho, and graduated from St. Maries High School. He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1933 with a degree in accounting and engineering.

Mr. Walker played football for UI and was also a vocalist.

He lived in Santa and served as the postmaster and owned Santa Mercantile before retiring in 1967.

Mr. Walker spent time at his summer home in Chatcolet, Idaho, and was a founding member of the Santa Grange.

He later moved to Tensed, Idaho, and was a member of the St. Maries Elks Lodge and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

Survivors include his wife, Belle; a daughter, Lynn Walker of Tensed; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lucas Folk Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Lucas L. Folk, 79, will be today from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Mr. Folk, who was born in South Dakota, died Friday.

He served with the Army from 1938 to 1939 and again from 1944 to 1946 before moving to Osburn, Idaho, in 1953.

Mr. Folk worked at the Wallace Post Office from 1953 to 1971 and served four years as assistant postmaster before becoming postmaster in Osburn in 1971. He retired due to poor health in 1976.

He later moved to Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Folk was a member of the Coeur d’Alene American Legion Post and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; a son, Jim Folk of Post Falls; a daughter, Anita Jacobsen of Nevada; six grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Marvin ‘Muggs’ Bennett Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Service for Marvin Eugene “Muggs” Bennett, 73, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bonners Ferry. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bennett, who died Saturday, was born in Wisconsin.

He grew up and graduated from high school in Wisconsin and then served with the Army in Europe during World War II.

Mr. Bennett returned to Wisconsin after his military discharge. He moved to Bonners Ferry in the 1950s and worked for Bonners Ferry Lumber Co.

He then owned a portable sawmill and worked in logging from 1957 to 1965.

He co-owned Bennett Bros. Automotive in the early 1970s and retired in 1985.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheron Lockman and Audrey Tusing, both of Bonners Ferry; two sisters, Beverly “Betty” Horn of Wisconsin and Geraldine Bennett of Bonners Ferry; three brothers, Bill Bennett of Bonners Ferry, Ronnie Bennett of Indiana and Vernon Bennett of California; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Linda Huff Post Falls

Public memorial service for Linda Carol Huff, 33, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lake City High School in Coeur d’Alene. Funeral service was Tuesday at the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho. Burial followed at Parkview Cemetery in New Plymouth, Idaho.

Mrs. Huff, an Idaho State Police officer, was killed in the line of duty last Wednesday in Coeur d’Alene.

She was born in Ontario, Ore., and grew up and attended schools in Oregon.

Mrs. Huff graduated from high school in 1982 and made it to the National Junior Rodeo Finals two years in a row.

She later attended Blue Mountain Community College and was active in rodeo and then took a job at the Payette County Assessor’s office in 1987.

Mrs. Huff joined the Payette County Sheriff’s Office in 1990 and became a patrol officer with the Payette County Sheriff’s Department in 1992.

She had lived in Fruitland, Idaho, and graduated from the Idaho State Police Academy in 1997 and moved to the Post Falls area. She was a trooper in the Coeur d’Alene office.

Survivors include her husband, Chad; two sons, Clinton and Zachary, and a daughter, Rena, all at home; her parents, Ed and Barbara Laughlin; a brother, Mike Laughlin; a sister, Debbie; and several other relatives.

James Strong Athol, Idaho

At the family’s request, no service will be held for James Richard Strong, 88. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Strong, who was born in Oklahoma, died Friday.

He joined the Navy in 1932 and was a warrant officer aboard the USS Enterprise during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Mr. Strong then lived in Oregon and was a member of the USS Enterprise Association and Fleet Reserve.

He retired in 1962 and moved to North Idaho in 1971.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne Strong of Athol; two sons, Roger Strong of California and Jimmy Strong of Arizona; three stepsons, Dale Stoneman of California, Roy Stoneman of Oregon, and Duke Stoneman of Quincy, Wash.; and three stepdaughters, Melanie Morrison of Athol, Cheri Stoneman of Coeur d’Alene and Dawn Stoneman of Oregon.

Merle Hills Post Falls

Memorial service for Merle Russel Hills, 88, will be Friday at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Mr. Hills, who was born in Wisconsin, died Friday.

He grew up and attended school in Wisconsin and moved to Tensed, Idaho, in the 1930s.

Mr. Hills drove a logging truck and then moved to St. Maries in 1941 and began a career as a mechanic with Frazier Chevrolet, now Chase Chevrolet.

Mr. Hills then worked as a truck driver for Spokane-St. Maries Auto Freight Co, and he moved to Post Falls in 1981.

He was preceded in death by two wives, Grace and Hazel.

Survivors include his wife, Violet; two daughters, Geri Enyert of Nevada and Joyce Griffin of Coeur d’Alene; two stepsons, Ken Sturgis of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Jerry Sturgis of Worley, Idaho; two brothers, George Hills of Spokane and Donald Hills of New Hampshire; a sister, Myrtle Crowell of California; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Jay D’Andrea Kellogg

Inurnment for Jay D’Andrea, 84, will be Thursday at noon at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg.

Mr. D’Andrea, who was born in Harrison, Idaho, died May 23.

He grew up and attended school in Kellogg and worked as a miner in various local mines. He then served in the Navy as a fireman second class before returning to Idaho after his military service.

Mr. D’Andrea then earned a law enforcement certificate from the University of Idaho and served as a police officer in Kellogg.

He also worked as a bus driver, truck driver, cook, bartender, scuba diver and property manager.

His wife, LaVonn, died in 1997.

Survivors include a son, Jack D’Andrea; a daughter, Anita Ables; a stepdaughter, Beverly Polis; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Donna Bean Post Falls

Memorial service for Donna Mildred Bean, 88, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Community United Methodist Church. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bean, who was born in Nebraska, died Thursday.

She lived in Colfax, Wash., before moving to Hayden Lake in 1973.

Mrs. Bean moved to Post Falls last year.

She worked as a dental hygienist and was a homemaker.

Her husband, John, died in 1992.

Survivors include a son, Ted Bean of Cle Elum, Wash.; a daughter, Teresa Richardson of Redmond, Ore.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Luther Morris Spokane

Visitation for Luther W. Morris, 86, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Morris, a 50-year resident of Spokane, died Sunday.

He was born in Molson, Wash., and was raised in Chesaw, Wash., where he worked on the family wheat and dairy farm.

Mr. Morris then worked with the Carnation Co. for more than 30 years until his retirement in the early 1970s as a dairyman.

He was a member of Tordenskjold Lodge No. 5 of the Sons of Norway, and the Spokane Rock Rollers Club.

His wife of 51 years, Irene Morris, died in 1987.

Survivors include a son, Glen Morris of Post Falls; two daughters, Peggy Plue and LeeAnna Umbaugh, both of Spokane; 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Florence ‘Flo’ Williams Sandpoint

Memorial service for Florence K. “Flo” Williams, 69, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Ms. Williams, who was born in North Dakota, died June 16.

In 1950 she lived in Alaska, and she eventually settled in 1965 in Sandpoint, where she operated several business ventures.

Ms. Williams had a passion for golf and had a winter home in Arizona.

Survivors include her companion, Ralph Williams; two daughters, Cheryl Williams of Sandpoint and Karren Williams of New York; a son, Mike Williams of Sandpoint; two brothers, James and Harold Mildenberger, both of Montana; and two grandchildren.
