Carol Rettke Athol, Idaho

Visitation for Carol Virginia Rettke, 61, will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Athol Community Center.

Mrs. Rettke, who was born in Oklahoma City, died Sunday from a heart condition.

She grew up and graduated from high school in Oklahoma City in 1955 and then moved to California and Arkansas before settling in North Idaho in 1977.

Mrs. Rettke was a bank teller for First Security Bank for the past nine years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Vincent of Athol; two stepsons, Rick and Robert Rettke, both of California; a stepdaughter, Renee Escobat of California; and three grandchildren, Jackie, Lenina and Jason.

Robert Miller Chattaroy

Graveside service for Robert D. Miller, 81, will be at 11 a.m. today at Whitepine (Mont.) Cemetery. CoffeltBunch Funeral Service in Plains, Mont., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Miller, who was born in Pocatello, Idaho, died Saturday.

He lived in Soda Springs, Idaho, until the age of six when he moved to Oregon.

In 1942 he married Mary Boyles and they lived in Oregon, California, and Trout Creek, Mont., where they owned and operated Miller Market for many years.

Mr. Miller also operated a bulldozer for MK Construction and worked on Lake Koocanusa near Libby, Mont.

For the past 12 years and he and his wife have operated a Beefmaster cattle ranch in Chattaroy.

He was a 25-year member of the Whitepine Grange and a charter member of the Trout Creek Senior Citizens Center, which he helped to build.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, John Miller of Spokane, Byron Miller of Springfield, Ore., and Robert Miller Jr., of Bothell, Wash.; a daughter, Anna Robbins of Trout Creek; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Vernon Borley Coeur d’Alene

Service for Vernon E. Borley, 79, will be held today at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Borley, who was born in Montana, died Saturday.

He grew up and attended schools in Coeur d’Alene and served with the Marine Corps in Panama during World War II. He then returned to Coeur d’Alene and worked for the Forest Service for 10 years.

Mr. Borley then worked as a millwright on various construction sites out of Millwright’s Union Local 1862 of Spokane. He retired from construction in 1974.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 889 and served as commander at the local and state levels.

Mr. Borley was also a member of the Shrine Calam Temple in Lewiston, the Coeur d’Alene Cooties, Eagles Lodge 486 and the Post Falls American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen; three sons, Jon Borley of Rathdrum, Idaho, Rod Borley of Post Falls and Timothy Borley of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Linda Jansen of Oregon; two brothers, Dick Borley of Pomeroy, Wash., and Don Borley of Post Falls; a sister, Darlene Prosser of Hayden, Idaho; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Marian Manis Moscow, Idaho

Memorial service for Marian M. Manis, 80, will be at 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in Moscow. Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Manis, who died Friday, was born in Evanston, Ill.

She earned a degree in home economics from Iowa State College.

Mrs. Manis then worked as a nutritionist for the Spokane branch of the Washington State Dairy Council.

She moved to Moscow in 1950 so her husband, Hubert, could head the entomology department at the University of Idaho. They then adopted two children from Brussels, Belgium, in 1957.

Mrs. Manis was a member of the PEO, the American Home Economics Association, the American Association of University Women and served as past president of the UI Women’s Faculty Club.

She did volunteer work with the Latah County Historical Society, Gritman Medical Center Auxiliary and the Moscow Public Library.

Mrs. Manis was also a member of the Moscow Presbyterian Church and was in charge of wedding receptions.

Her husband died in 1968.

Survivors include a daughter, Jean Davis of Troy, Idaho.

Florence MacSmith Spokane

Memorial service for Florence R. MacSmith, 88, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Abundant Life Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. MacSmith, who was born in Lillooet, British Columbia, died Saturday.

She owned a dairy farm with registered Jersey livestock for many years and was a professional musician.

Mrs. MacSmith also sold real estate for several years for Rose Realty. She was a 63-year resident of Spokane.

Her husband Arthur died in 1958.

Survivors include two nieces, Faith Phillips of Spokane and Mirth Newcomb of Coeur d’Alene.

Rev. Lorne Morrison Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for the Rev. Lorne E. Morrison, 66, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Private burial was held at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home.

Rev. Morrison, who was born in Ontario, Canada, died Sunday.

In 1953 he graduated from Eastern Bible College and ministered in Canada until moving to Montana in 1954.

Rev. Morrison continued his ministries in Montana and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1959. He moved to Spokane in 1961 where he later joined the Spokane Sheriff’s Department.

He started as a patrolman, transferred to the radio room and then worked in the identification department, where he introduced color photos into the process.

Rev. Morrison later transferred to the work release program before retiring as a sergeant in the narcotics department in 1979.

He owned the Pizza Loft in Spokane during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Rev. Morrison moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1992 and recently served as the Chaplain of the Retired Deputies’ Association in Spokane.

Survivors include his wife, Florence; three daughters, Ginger Morrison of Coeur d’Alene, Debbie Hokel of Athol, Idaho, and Regine Hunt of Newport, Wash.; a brother, Carl Morrison, and a sister, Margery Moulton, both of Ontario; 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Mary Serrette Columbus, Mont.

Visitation for Mary Kathryn Serrette, 97, will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Serrette, who was born in Absarokee, Mont., died Sunday.

In 1919 she graduated from Montana Normal College in Billings, Mont. She moved to Otis Orchards in the 1930s before settling in Post Falls in 1944.

Mrs. Serrette was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church and taught Sunday School before becoming an ordained minister in the church, delivering sermons, and speaking at services, camps and revivals.

She served as a cook in the Post Falls school hot lunch program and then for Lutheran Homes in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Serrette was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and was past president of the Post Falls Gold Star Mothers.

Her husband, Azel, died in 1975. She moved to Montana in 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Letha Greeley of Coeur d’Alene; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Judith McReynolds Moscow, Idaho

Memorial service for Judith M. McReynolds, 48, was Tuesday at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow.

Ms. McReynolds, who was born in Buffalo, N.Y., died Saturday due to complications from multiple sclerosis.

She moved to Genesee, Idaho, in the 1960s and graduated from high school there. Ms. McReynolds then moved to Moscow and worked as an operator for GTE until 1985 when illness forced her to retire.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Moscow and was involved in various support groups for multiple sclerosis.

Survivors include two children, Nathan McReynolds and DeDe McReynolds, both of Moscow; two sisters, Donna Erickson of Moscow and Carol Feldman of North Carolina; and a brother, Marvin Bish of Anchorage, Alaska.

Jean Millican Loon Lake, Wash.

Funeral for Jean Emeline Millican, 75, will be at 11 a.m. today at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Ford, Wash.

Mrs. Millican, who was born in Wellpinit, Wash., died Thursday.

She raised registered dairy goats for many years and was a lifetime member of the Dairy Goat Association.

Mrs. Millican had lived in the Loon Lake area for the past 47 years, and was a member of the Colville Confederated Tribes.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann Wooten of Archer, Fla.; a sister, Blanche Moore of Coeur d’Alene; and four granddaughters.

George Nutt Post Falls

No service will be held for George Walter Nutt, 76, at his request. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nutt, who was born in Sandpoint, died Sunday.

He grew up in Sandpoint where he lived until moving to Post Falls 30 years ago.

Mr. Nutt had owned Mr. Clean Janitorial Services and was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Post Falls and the Post Falls Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Jack Nutt of Spokane; a daughter, Laurie Frey-Hazeltine of Coeur d’Alene; and a sister, Mrs. Harry Graham of Montana.

Theodore Graham Ford, Wash.

Memorial service for Theodore G. Graham, 67, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Valley Assembly of God Church in Spokane. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Graham, who died Sunday, was born in North Bend, Ore.

He served in the Army during the Korean War and lived in many cities throughout the United States working as an interior decorator.

Mr. Graham moved to Spokane in the late 1980s where he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Post 6 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2218.

He also was a member of the Gospel Oprey Congregation and played harmonica in the Gospel Oprey Band.

Survivors include his wife of four years, Linda; four children; a stepson, Andy Wear of Ford; a stepdaughter, Nancy Wear of Spokane; two brothers, Daniel Graham of Oldtown, Idaho, and Ben Tarbert of Libby, Mont.; and a sister, Alice Scott of Boise.

Della Ahern Great Falls, Mont.

Visitation for Della Grace Ahern, 60, will be from noon to 7 p.m. today, with vigil following at Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory in Missoula. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Missoula. A reception will follow at the church. Private family burial will be at New St. Mary’s Cemetery in Missoula.

Mrs. Ahern, who was born in Missoula, died Monday.

She was raised and educated in Stevensville, Mont., and in 1956 married Frank Ahern in Missoula.

Mrs. Ahern worked for the Postal Service for 30 years, the last 10 in Spokane. She retired in 1996 and returned to Montana.

Her husband died in 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Mark Ahern of Oregon and Todd Ahern of Valier, Mont.; two daughters, Janice Styren of Helena and Frankie Hanson of Choteau, Mont.; her parents, Harold and Grace Cromwell, both of Lolo, Mont.; a sister, Nancy Piche of Missoula; and nine grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Wilma Rubertt Spokane

Graveside service for Wilma S. Rubertt, 73, will be at 2 p.m. today at Holy Cross Cemetery. HennesseySmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A homemaker and longtime Spokane resident, Mrs. Rubertt died Sunday. She was born in Mount Hope, Wash.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Melvin; two sons, Mel and Louis Rubertt, both of Spokane; two sisters, Artis Larsen and Bea Mayfield, both of Spokane; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or to Cancer Patient Care.

Zuma Beck Spokane

Funeral for Zuma C. Beck, 84, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home. Private family burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Beck, who was born in Bovill, Idaho, died Saturday.

She married Horace Beck and worked as a medical X-ray secretary for numerous doctors in the Paulsen Building for many years.

Mrs. Beck had been a resident of Spokane for the past 80 years.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include a nephew and three cousins.
