Three Area Students Receive Dar Award
Three Spokane-area students were awarded the Good Citizenship Medal from the Jonas Babcock Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The students and the schools they attend are: Carrie Earlscourt, Medical Lake Middle School, Jessica Herbes, Deer Park Junior High, and Bradley Whipple, Lamont Junior High.
The medal is given to outstanding boys and girls of a graduating class. It was designed to offer a concrete and tangible plan for training in American citizenship.
The award is based on honesty, high principles, loyalty, leadership, truthfulness, punctuality, moral strength and stability, and cleanliness of mind and body.
Several Spokane students have earned their associate’s degrees from ITT Technical Institute. The students, listed by their program of study, are:
Electronics Engineering Technology: Gary Carlson, Marcus Webb, Kirt Warner, Thomas Schnebly, and Kim Coyner.
Computer Aided Drafting: Raymond Burnham, David Ford, and Todd Hawley.
Two Spokane residents graduated this spring from Greenville College in Greenville, Ill.
Cerissa Thompson earned a bachelor of arts degree in music, and is the daughter of Nathan and Priscilla Thompson, Spokane.
Shane Matsumoto graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in religion, and is the son of Harry and Pauline Matsumoto, Spokane.
Navy Petty Officer 1st class Michael P. Tipps was promoted to his present rank while serving aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Stethem.
Tipps, a 1987 graduate of West Valley High School, is the son of Edward Tipps, Newman Lake.
Ryan Ray graduated cum laude this spring from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
Ray, a 1994 graduate of Gonzaga Preparatory High School, is the son of Rock and Martha Ray, Veradale.
Lisa Ann Tinnell graduated this spring from the University of Washington with a bachelor of arts degree in liberal studies and a concentration in comparative studies.
Tinnell, who also received a certificate of recognition for scholastic achievement, is the daughter of Jim and Mary Tinnell, Twin Lakes, Wash.
