Alice (Svehla) Martson Spokane

Graveside service for Alice Marie (Svehla) Martson, 95, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Moscow Cemetery. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Martson, who was born in Plattsmouth, Neb., died Sunday.

She moved to Milligan, Neb., with her family, where she attended school until the age of 15, when she went to work cooking and doing housework for one dollar a day.

In 1922 she married Chris Martson, and continued to live in Nebraska until 1936, when she moved to Moscow, Idaho.

Mrs. Martson lived in Moscow until 1964, when she moved to Spokane.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband died in 1979.

Survivors include five sons, Francis Martson of Clarkston, Wash., Richard Martson of Gardnerville, Nev., William and Robert Martson, both of Moscow, and James Martson of Corning, Calif.; two daughters, Patsy Martson at home, and Alice Domrese of Spokane; 10 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Doris Forbes Spokane

Memorial service for Doris L. Forbes, 77, will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Forbes, who was born in Carpenter, S.D., died Saturday.

She worked as an flight attendant for Trans World Airlines in 1945 and later became a homemaker.

Mrs. Forbes was a 42-year member of the Spokane Club and a longtime member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

Her husband, Donald, died in 1989.

Survivors include a son, Paul Forbes of Tigard, Ore.; two daughters, Heather Munson of Tacoma and Laurie Marshall of Spokane; two sisters, Patricia Trusty of Eugene, Ore., and Carmen Ranlett of Mount Vernon, Wash.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Delores Smith Lacey, Wash.

Memorial service for Delores J. Smith, 66, was March 29 at Olympic Funeral Home in Tumwater, Wash.

Mrs. Smith, who died March 26, was born in Billings, Mont.

She married Ralph Smith in 1951 and worked at the Spokane Club for 22 years before moving to Lacey 14 years ago.

Mrs. Smith retired from working as an accountant at the Fircrest (Wash.) Golf Course and began traveling with her husband in their Airstream trailer throughout the Southwest.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Douglas Smith of Spokane, Wayne Smith of Lacey and Tommy Smith of Phoenix; three daughters, Patty Campbell of Spokane, Connie Grytness of West Richland, Wash., and Linda Lofgren of Puyallup, Wash.; six siblings; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Harold Hanson Spokane

Memorial service for Harold B. Hanson, 74, is planned for 2 p.m. today at the Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hanson, who died March 31, was born in Burtrum, Minn.

He He was raised in North Dakota, living there until serving in the Navy.

After his discharge he moved to Spokane, where he worked for the R.A. Hanson Co.

Survivors include his wife, Aicha Souala; four sons, Donald Hanson of Spokane, James Hanson of Nevada, Douglas Hanson of Arizona and Brian Hanson of Washington state; three daughters, Gloria Vendwald of Spokane, Rose Solamone of Alaska and Linda Shanez of Pullman; a stepson, Hamid Souala; three brothers, Richard Hanson of Kansas, Orville Hanson of North Dakota and Dennis Hanson of Florida; four sisters, Shirley Allen of Spokane, Elvina Stringer of North Dakota, and Berniece Krieger and Nyla Lakoduk, both of Minnesota; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Eleanor Dittrich Spokane

Visitation for Eleanor F. Dittrich, 87, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Graveside service is planned for 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Memorial Park. Memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Dittrich died Sunday.

She was a staff organist for Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home for many years.

Mrs. Dittrich was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the German-American Society and the American Guild of Organists.

Her husband, Alfred, died in 1971.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald Dittrich of Spokane and Richard Dittrich of Lacey, Wash.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Ruth Neff Spokane

Visitation for Ruth M. Neff, 85, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Neff, who was born in Spokane, died Sunday.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Moose and Eagles Lodge auxiliaries.

Her husband, George Neff, died in 1995.

Survivors include a son, Rodney Bulloch of Orem, Utah; a daughter, Linda Thomas of Spokane; 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Velma Heppner Spokane

Memorial service for Velma E. (Nygaard) Heppner, 79, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

A 12-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Heppner died Sunday. She was born in Thorp, Wash.

She entered the U.S. Armed Forces in 1943, serving as one of the first women from Washington state to be in the Women’s Army Corps as a sergeant.

Mrs. Heppner was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Her husband, Floyd, died in 1994.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann Dennis of Ione, Wash.; a sister, Nina Hall of Bothell, Wash.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mary Peck Upland, Calif.

Funeral Mass for Mary Lucille Peck, 94, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Upland. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Peck, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.

She married Oliver Peck in 1928 and was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spokane.

Mrs. Peck moved to Upland 42 years ago.

Her husband died in 1954.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Lokovsek; one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

Eva Lynn West End Spokane Indian Reservation

Funeral for Eva L. Lynn, 89, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash. Burial will follow at the Sutton Lynn Cemetery in Miles, Wash.

Mrs. Lynn, who was born in Fruitland, Wash., died Monday.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Spokane Tribe of Indians.

Her husband, Maurice Lynn, died in 1981.

Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine Claassen of West End Spokane Indian Reservation; three sons, Clyde and Kenneth Lynn, also of West End, and Vernon Lynn of Brewster, Wash.; 13 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Kerns Spokane

Graveside service for Kenneth R. Kerns, 46, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A longtime Spokane resident, Mr. Kerns died Thursday. He was born in Colfax, Wash.

Mr. Kerns had been working as an electrician.

Survivors include his fiancee, Robin Rapp, and her son, Damien, both of Post Falls; a son, Wyatt Kerns; his father and stepmother, Kenneth and Ruth Kerns of Somers, Mont.; a brother, Kevin Kerns of Spokane; two sisters, Mexie Lampson and Billie Babinski, both of Spokane; and his grandmother, Eva Kerns of Tekoa, Wash.

James Haskell Spokane

Private family service for James A. Haskell, 65, will be held at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 55-year Spokane resident, Mr. Haskell died Thursday. He was born in Santa Barbara, Calif.

He graduated from West Valley High School in 1952 and served in the Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Haskell worked as a salesman in the seafood industry.

Survivors include his wife, Ut; four sons, Robert and Donald Haskell, both of Spokane, William Haskell of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Ronald Haskell of Boise; a daughter, Kathleen Haskell of Spokane; a stepson, Tu Le, and three stepdaughters, Mai Le, Phung Le and Amy Le, all of Spokane; a sister, Lois Gardner of Greenacres; and six grandchildren.

Elizabeth Bowerman Newport, Wash.

Memorial service for Elizabeth Irene “Betty” Bowerman, 75, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Newport Southern Baptist Church. Private inurnment will be at Newport Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Harrison, Idaho, Mrs. Bowerman, died Monday.

She graduated from Newport High School in 1942 and married John Bowerman that same year. He died in 1995.

Mrs. Bowerman was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Jo McGuire of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Louise Wraspir Irby, Wash.

Visitation for Louise L. Wraspir, 90, will be from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Heritage Church Chapel in Odessa. Funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Bohemian Cemetery in Odessa. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wraspir, who was born in Bowden, Alberta, died Sunday.

She graduated from Marlin (Wash.) High School in 1926 and married Louis Wraspir that same year.

Mrs. Wraspir was a homemaker and a member of the Royal Neighbors, Odessa Hospital Guild and the Odessa Grange.

Her husband died in 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Eugene Wraspir of Irby and Alfred Wraspir of Odessa; a daughter, Joyce Haase of Odessa; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
