Barbara Reed Deer Lake

Funeral Mass for Barbara Jean Reed, 69, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Deer Park. Burial will be at Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Reed, who was born in Spokane, died Friday.

She graduated from Rogers High School.

Her grand parents founded Haney’s Resort on Deer Lake and she and her husband, Charles, operated the resort for several years. In 1976 they sold the business.

They continued to make their home at Deer Lake.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Deer Park, St. Joseph Altar Society in Clayton, the Deer Park Band Boosters, Christian Women’s Club, the Loon Lake Food Pantry, Deer Lake Property Owners Association, Deer Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Deer Lake Auxiliary and the Deer Lake Sewing Circle.

Survivors include her husband, Charles; three daughters, Vallery Reed-Cogo of Spokane, Deborah Bynum of Valley, Wash., and Michelle Beck of Chattaroy; a brother, John Haney of Sultan, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

Robert Graff Spokane

Memorial service for Robert W. “Bob” Graff, 68, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Opportunity Free Methodist Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born and raised in Spokane, Mr. Graff died Friday.

He graduated from Central Valley High School in 1949 and served with the Air National Guard in England during the Korean War.

In 1953 he married Patricia Artis.

Mr. Graff worked for Standard Oil for 13 years and then owned and operated the Chevron station on Sprague and Pines for 21 years. He retired in 1989.

He attended Opportunity Free Methodist Church, was a Mason and past master of the Manito Masonic Lodge, and was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shrine. He also played in the Shrine Bowling League.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Teresa Lamm of Newberg, Ore.; two sons, Marc Graff of Mill Creek, Wash., and Craig Graff of Newman Lake; and nine grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission, or to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Priscilla Holcomb Lewiston

Graveside service for Priscilla May Holcomb, 89, will be at 11 a.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park in Spokane. Mountain View Funeral Home in Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Holcomb, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.

She lived in Medimont, Idaho, on a homestead near Evans Creek. In 1919 she moved back to Spokane where she attended schools.

Mrs. Holcomb worked in retail sales and was a cook for several restaurants.

In 1952 she moved to Red Bluff, Calif., where she owned a cafe until 1966. She then moved to Moyie Springs, Idaho, where she also owned a cafe-lounge and gas station. She returned to Spokane in 1962.

Mrs. Holcomb moved to Lewiston in 1971, where she worked at the Big V department store. She retired in 1978.

Her first husband, Lester Jensen, died in 1948. Her second husband, Homer Holcomb, died in 1971.

Survivors include two sons, Loren Jensen of Lewiston and Norman Jensen of Santa, Idaho; a sister, Opal Holmes of Spokane; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Linda Hoffman Sprague, Wash.

Memorial service for Linda L. Hoffman, a 20-year Sprague resident, will be at 1 p.m. today at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sprague. Cheney Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hoffman, who was born in Salem, Ore., died Friday. She was 46.

Mrs. Hoffman worked for the City of Sprague and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Lon Jansen; two children, Wes and Melinda Wiebe; her mother, Lucille Cousins of Sprague; five siblings, Rose Kirkland, Bruce, Billie Joe and Darrell Cousins, and Julie Hieter.

Louis Andrews Usk, Wash.

Funeral for Louis Paul “Louie” Andrews, a longtime Usk resident, will be at 11 a.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church on the Kalispel Reservation in Usk. ShermanKnapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Andrews, who was born in Camas Prairie, Mont., died Saturday. He was 72.

He was a member of the Kalispel Tribe of Indians.

He served in the Air Force during World War II.

Mr. Andrews worked as a logger and a miner in the Usk area for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; four sons, Louis Andrews Jr. of Usk, Ronnie Thomas and Larry Andrews, both of Nespelem, Wash., and Albert Thomas of Spokane; two daughters, Birdie Thomas of Nespelem and Marie Andrews of Yakima; a sister, Louise Bowman of Usk; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Gladys Sauer Tekoa, Wash.

Rosary for Gladys Agatha Sauer, 93, will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tekoa. Funeral Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Cavalier, N.D., Mrs. Sauer died Saturday.

She graduated from Cavalier High School in 1924 and received a teaching certificate from Mayville (N.D.) State Teachers College. She taught at a country school in North Dakota for eight years.

In 1932 she married Leo Sauer. He was a grain dealer in Tappen, N.D., for several years. His job took them to Glendive, Mont., Kelso, N.D., and in 1948 to Glasgow, Mont.

In 1967 Mrs. Sauer moved to Tekoa where she began working as an office assistant and teachers aide for Tekoa Elementary School. Her husband died in 1971. She retired from the Tekoa School District in 1981.

Mrs. Sauer was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society, and the Lotus Card Club, both in Tekoa.

She moved to the Tekoa Care Center in 1995.

Survivors include four daughters, Frances Sauer, Colleen Winn, Mary Heitt and Cathleen Flock, all of Tekoa; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Ruth Dugger Colfax, Wash.

Private graveside service for Ruth Acelia Dugger is planned for 10 a.m. today at the Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dugger, who was born in Davenport, Wash., died Monday. She was 71.

She grew up in the Davenport area and in 1945 graduated from Davenport High School. She attended Cheney Normal School for a year before going to work as a telephone operator.

In 1950 she married Robert Dugger. She was a homemaker.

They lived in the Harrington, Wash., area before moving to Odessa for a short time. In 1960 they moved to Colfax.

Her husband died in 1987.

Survivors include a son, Randy Dugger of Colfax; five sisters, Hazel Schuh of Moses Lake, Dorothy Erks and Trudy Frohnhafer, both of Airway Heights, Betty Crumley of Spokane and June Bancroft of Tempe, Ariz.; and a brother, Bob Frohnhafer of Airway Heights.

Otis Winders Spokane

Memorial service for Otis H. Winders, 80, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Winders, who was born in Vandalia, Mo., died Sunday.

He served in the Army during World War II and later worked as a truck driver in the logging industry.

Mr. Winders lived in Reedsport, Ore., for many years before moving to Spokane 20 years ago.

His wife, Theora, died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Bobby Winders of Portland; three daughters, Patsy Watson of Sacramento, Calif., Doris Cogan of Boston and Pamelia Whitcomb of Spokane; two brothers, Jeff and Jack Winders, both of Spokane; three sisters, Marjorie Stout of Olivehurst, Calif., Vera Burleson of Springfield, Ore., and Terry Prescott of Cottage Grove, Ore.; five grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

Harriet Reagan Spokane

Graveside service for Harriet W. Reagan, will be at 2 p.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Reagan, 85, died Saturday. She was born in Marshall, Mich.

She was a 51-year Spokane resident and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Reagan was a member of North Hill Christian Church, was active with the Helen Walker Group at the church and was a founder of the Compass Club in Spokane.

Survivors include her husband, Charles; and a son, Ronald Reagan of Tarzana, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to North Hill Christian Church.

Faustino Ferraro Spokane

Vigil for Faustino Ferraro, 80, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Ferraro, who was born in Casole Bruzio, Italy, died Sunday.

He was a veteran of World War II and was a prisoner of war.

He moved to Spokane in 1962 and worked at Burgan’s Furniture for 15 years.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, American Italian Club and the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Assunta De Luca Ferraro; three sons, Pat, Orlando and Tony Ferraro, all of Spokane; a daughter, Raffaella Ferraro-Travis of Athol, Idaho; a sister, Angelino Baldino of Italy; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Juanita Harris Spokane

Funeral for Juanita Harris, a 65-year Spokane resident, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Harris, who was born in Meriden, Kan., died Sunday. She was 85.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, W. Harris, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her companion, Cliff Cook; a son, Philip Harris of San Diego; a daughter, LaJune Edinger of Bremerton; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jean Nuess-Carter Spokane

Memorial service for Jean Nuess-Carter, 81, will be held at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nuess-Carter, who was born in New Bremen, Ohio, died Thursday. She was a 31-year Spokane resident.

She was a homemaker and a school teacher specializing in early childhood development.

Her first husband, Robert Nuess, died in 1981. In 1984 she married George Carter.

Survivors include four sons, Michael Nuess of Spokane, Joseph Nuess of Medical Lake, John Nuess of Kailua, Hawaii, and Richard Nuess of Dayton, Ohio; a daughter, Barbara Twohig of Spokane; a brother, Don Roettger of Dearborn, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren.

Mary Sasse Spokane

Family service and burial for Mary H. Sasse, 74, will be held in Villisca, Iowa. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sasse, who was born in Grant, Iowa, died Friday.

She moved to Spokane in 1961 from Chehalis, Wash.

Mrs. Sasse worked at The Crescent department store for several years.

In 1945 she married Calvin Sasse. He died in 1997.

Survivors include a son, Lary Sasse of Hillsboro, Ore.; a daughter, Susan Gulbranson of Spokane; two sisters, Elaine Artlip and Frances Cunningham, both of Villisca; a brother, Pat Corbin of Minneapolis; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

D’Eriece Vig Klein Dalton Gardens, Idaho

Memorial service for D’Eriece Wilma Vig Klein, 64, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Mrs. Klein, who was born in Idaho Falls, died Monday.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1941 from Driggs, Idaho. Cotter of Otis Orchards, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.

Lola (Hunt) Bell Spokane

Visitation for Lola (Hunt) Bell, a 64-year Spokane resident, will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at the Dayton (Wash.) Cemetery. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Good Samaritan Village Chapel in Greenacres.

Mrs. Bell, who was born in Ralston, Wash., died Sunday. She was 90.

She graduated from high school in Walla Walla and received a degree in economics and business administration from Washington State University.

Mrs. Bell worked as the office manager in the law offices of her husband, Kenneth Bell.

She was a member of South Hill Christian Church, where she was also past president of the deaconesses. She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority, the Spokane Club and Spokane Country Club, and was a member and past president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Spokane County Bar Association. She also was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and Altar Society, and the Daughters of the American Revolution, both in Palm Springs, Calif.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years; a son, Arthur Bell of Spokane; a daughter, Elizabeth Gnaedinger of Palouse, Wash.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Village in Greenacres.

Samuel Saul Spokane

Private service will be held for Samuel Earl Saul. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Saul, who was born in Delta, Ohio, died Saturday. He was 64.

He came to Spokane in 1987 from Moran, Wyo., and married Rebecca Julian.

Mr. Saul worked as a salesman for Dixon Pest Control for several years. He retired in 1995.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Danielle Saul at home; a son, Paul Saul of Topeka, Kan.; and a sister, Geraldine Taberner of Toledo, Ohio.

Albert Cozzetto Spokane

Graveside service for Albert J. Cozzetto, 73, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Cozzetto died Sunday.

He worked as a meat cutter for several local stores for 39 years. He was a longtime member of the Meat Cutters Union.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Patricia; two sons, Larry Cozzetto of Spokane and Monte Cozzetto of Alaska; a brother, Orest Cozzetto of Seattle; and one granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association or Hospice of Spokane.

Walter Sullivan Spokane

Private service for Walter A. Sullivan, 72, was held. Born in Butte, Mont., Mr. Sullivan died July 27.

He graduated from Boy’s Central High School in Montana and served with the Army as a military policeman.

In 1950 he married his wife, Gerry.

Mr. Sullivan worked as a heating engineer for his father’s company, Sullivan Valve and Engineering.

In 1967 he moved to Spokane and started a branch office, working there until retiring in 1984.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Sharlene Gibson, Lynette Hargrove, Cathy Jones and Marissa Sullivan; a son, Tim Sullivan; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Raymond Kitts Sandpoint

Graveside service for Raymond Jordan Kitts, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kitts, who was born in Colorado, died Friday.

He grew up in the Grouse Creek area near Sandpoint and attended Bonner County schools.

Mr. Kitts studied dairy classes at the University of Idaho. He worked for the Pend Oreille Creamery and in the timber industry.

During World War II he lived in Bremerton and worked in the shipyards. He later returned to Sandpoint and worked for the Forest Service. Mr. Kitts also worked as a watchman at the Dover Mill for more than five years before retiring.

Survivors include a brother, Irving Kitts of Bothell, Wash.; two nieces and one nephew.

Gerald Grunerud Davenport, Wash.

Funeral for Gerald B. Grunerud, 83, was Monday at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial was at Mountain View Cemetery in Davenport.

Mr. Grunerud, who was born in Westby, Wis., died Thursday.

As a child, he moved to Saskatchewan, Canada, and attended schools there.

Mr. Grunerud left Canada in search of work in the United States. In 1937, after various jobs, he ended up at the Charles Ensor ranch in the Rocklyn, Wash., area.

While working at the ranch he met Grace Knack. They were married in 1942.

In 1943 he enlisted in the Navy, serving with the Seabees during World War II. He was discharged in 1945.

Mr. Grunerud went on to work various jobs before settling in Davenport in 1955.

He was a member of Green Valley Lutheran Church in Saskatchewan, the Davenport Gun Club and the Washington Horseshoe Pitching Association.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Judy Hamilton of Currie, Minn.; a son, Blaine Grunerud of Lakewood, Colo.; four brothers, Otis, Raymond and Douglas Grunerud, all of Saskatchewan, and Gordon Grunerud of Kimberly, British Columbia; a sister, Bertha Schaeffer of Davenport, Iowa; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Sibyl (Finney) Olsen Spokane

No service will be held for Sibyl (Finney) Olsen. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Olsen, who was born in Portland, died Friday. She was 84.

She grew up on a small farm in the Willamette Valley and attended her first eight years of school in a one-room schoolhouse.

In 1929 she moved to Yakima and in 1932 graduated from high school there. She was a member of the National Honor Society.

Mrs. Olsen worked for Metropolitan Life for four years before marrying Walter Olsen.

She moved to Spokane in 1942 and worked in several local offices before accepting a transfer to Portland in 1965. She retired in 1981 as the office manager for a chemical manufacturing firm.

She returned to Spokane in 1987.

Mrs. Olsen was active in the Eagles Lodge No. 2 Auxiliary and was a member of the steering committee at the West Central Community Center.

Survivors include a nephew; several nieces; one great-nephew and several great-nieces.

Paul Jacobs Diamond Lake, Wash.

No service will be held for Paul D. Jacobs, 84. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jacobs, who died Wednesday, was born in Jackson, Ohio.

In 1954 he moved to Pend Oreille County from California. He lived in the Elk and Diamond Lake areas.

In 1961 he married Elizabeth Zaversaik.

Mr. Jacobs worked as a diesel mechanic for Williams Equipment in Spokane and retired in 1979.

He was a member of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Union Local 86.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Phyllis Sage and Arlene Casselman; and two sons, Don and Jack Vosahlo, all of Elk; a sister, Ales Baker of Battle Creek, Mich.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
