Doris Ainsworth Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Doris Lillian Ainsworth, 73, will be today from 5-8 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Graveside service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Mrs. Ainsworth, who was born in Montana, died Sunday.

She grew up in Genesee, Idaho, and in 1944 graduated from Moscow (Idaho) High School.

Mrs. Ainsworth moved to Tacoma and worked for Western Union before returning to Moscow in 1947.

She married Robert Ainsworth in 1947 and worked as a hair dresser and sales clerk for J.C. Penney, Sears and the Sherman Drug Store before retiring in 1988. She later moved to Coeur d’Alene. Survivors include her husband of 51 years; a son, Roger Ainsworth of Clark Fork, Idaho; a daughter, Sherie Knadler of Hayden, Idaho; a brother, Cecil Packard of Viola, Idaho; three sisters, Donna Barrus of Twin Falls, Idaho, Mildred Germer of Waitsburg, Wash., and Wilma Daniels of Gooding, Idaho; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Luella Ball Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Luella Ball, 90, will be today from 5-8 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held later in Delta, Colo.

Mrs. Ball, who was born in Lewis, Kan., died Monday.

She moved to Colorado in 1935 and lived there for many years. She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1989.

Mrs. Ball was a member of Coeur d’Alene First Presbyterian Church and the Rebekah Lodge.

Her husband of 41 years, Elmer, died in 1986.

Survivors include a son, Edward Ball of Delta; two daughters, Zella Bloxom of Coeur d’Alene and JoAn Shaw of California; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

June Lorber St. Maries

No service will be held for June L. Lorber, 81, at her request. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Lorber, who was born in New Mexico, died Thursday.

She grew up in Albuquerque, N.M., and worked in aircraft factories on the East Coast during World War II.

She later was a housewife and also worked as a news commentator for NBC. She had interviewed president John F. Kennedy.

Ms. Lorber moved to St. Maries in 1964 and worked for KOFE Radio, the St. Maries Crisis Line and the St. Maries Gazette Record.

Survivors include a son, Edward Lorber of St. Maries; a daughter, Melissa Ann; and three grandchildren.

Richard Alabone Spokane

No service will be held for Richard F. Alabone, 77. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Alabone, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Sunday.

He served with the Army during World War II and later worked for Kaiser Aluminum Mead for 30 years before retiring in 1983.

Mr. Alabone was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Harriet; a stepson, James Klien of Tacoma; two sisters, Phyllis Burnell of Spokane and Patty Ladish of Colbert; one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

Helen Hess Laclede, Idaho

Memorial service for Helen Jean Hess, 66, will be today at 11 a.m. at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint.

Mrs. Hess, who was born in Omaha, Neb., died Sunday.

She grew up and attended school in Kansas and later moved to California. In 1952 she married Gene Hess in Reno, Nev.

She had traveled and lived throughout the United States while her husband was in the Air Force and settled in the Western United States before moving to Bonner County in 1987.

Mrs. Hess was a member of Southern Baptist Church in Newport, Wash.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Jim and Don Hess, both of St. Maries, and John Hess of Laclede; two brothers, Pete and Jay Simmons, both of Kansas; three sisters, Roberta Barrie and Vera Nelson, both of California, and Iva Lee McGregor of Hope, Idaho; and 13 grandchildren.

Eldora Gettmann Harland Caldwell, Idaho

Service for Eldora Gettmann Harland, 78, was Monday at Daken Funeral Chapel in Caldwell. Private burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Payette, Idaho.

Mrs. Harland, who was born in Odessa, Wash., died Thursday.

She graduated from Kinman Business University in Spokane. She worked for Tull and Gibbs and General Electric in Spokane for many years, and later worked at Boise Cascade in Boise before retiring. Survivors include her husband, Richard; a son, Ferrin Harland, and a daughter, Amalia Harland, both of Caldwell; a sister, Elva Richardson, and a brother, Elmer Gettmann, both of Odessa; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Maxine Carpenter Anchorage, Alaska

Memorial service for Maxine Rae Carpenter, 57, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Kingston Baptist Church in Kingston, Idaho.

Ms. Carpenter, who was born in Kellogg, died Jan. 13.

She grew up in the Silver Valley and in 1972 received an associate of arts degree from North Idaho College.

Ms. Carpenter worked as an educator in Wallace, Kellogg, Troy and McCall, Idaho.

She later moved to Anchorage. Survivors include two sons, Jeff Carpenter of Juneau, Alaska, and Brett Carpenter of McCall; two daughters, Debbie Warner of Bellingham and Julie Carpenter of Birch Bay, Wash.; her mother, Leah Goodson of Rose Lake, Idaho; five brothers, Rex, Dan, Vance, Wayne and Larry Goodson, all of Rose Lake; a sister, Laura Jo of Astoria, Ore.; and six grandchildren.

Elma Rose Spokane

Private service was held for Elma H. Rose. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rose, who was born in Cataldo, Idaho, died Friday. She was 90.

She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1924 and married Howard Rose in 1948.

They moved to Spokane in 1949 and she was a homemaker.

Her husband died in 1986.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Nap Boss Calder, Idaho

No service will be held for Nap B. Boss, 79, at his request. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Boss, who was born in Paoli, Ind., died Saturday.

He grew up in Indiana and later served with the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater and during the Korean War. He received 11 Battle Stars and retired in 1956.

He lived in California and in 1983 moved to Calder.

His wife of 53 years, Ida, died in 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Boss of Calder and Eric Boss of California; a daughter, Donna Swartz of California; three sisters, Herbie Clark of Texas, and Ruth Hammond and Terry Bird, both of California; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Russell Newell Silverton, Idaho

Memorial service for Russell William Newell, 83, will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Silver Wood Good Samaritan Center in Silverton. Inurnment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Mullan, Idaho. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Newell, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Sunday.

He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1934 and moved to the Silver Valley in 1937.

Mr. Newell worked as a logger and as a miner for various area mines.

He also was a musician and played the steel guitar at clubs in the Silver Valley.

Mr. Newell married Meriam Steel in 1966. She died in 1983.

Survivors include two sons, Charles and Ernest Newell, both of Mullan; a brother, Paul Newell of Underwood, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Mullan Little League Baseball.

Lucille Tilton Spokane

Service for Lucille Katherine Tilton, 84, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.

Mrs. Tilton, who was born in Noonan, N.D., died Sunday.

She grew up and graduated from high school in North Dakota and later moved to Seattle, where she worked as a cook and waitress.

Mrs. Tilton moved to Sandpoint in 1982 and to Spokane in 1986.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spokane and Seattle Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Drill Team Unit.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren.

Survivors include three children, Darlene Cutler of Houston, and Russell Allen and Carol Taylor, both of Greenacres; two brothers, Lendal Kotschevar of Wisconsin and Donald Kotschevar of Sandpoint; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Roy Crawford Spokane

Memorial service for Roy I. Crawford, 80, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

A 60-year Spokane resident, Mr. Crawford died Jan. 25. He was born in Boardway, Colo.

Mr. Crawford served with the Army during World War II and later worked as an automobile mechanic for many years.

He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His wife, Marge, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a brother, Samuel Crawford of La Miranda, Calif.; two half-brothers, Edward Crawford of Stover, Mo., and Harvey Crawford of Clifton, Colo.
