Peelin’ Groovy
Maybe it has something to do with advancing age. Or maybe we baby boomers were just born mellow, man.
Whatever the case, Stranahan’s Baby Boomer pickled garlic — made by retired Forest Service fire management officer Terry Stranahan of Kuna, Idaho — is surprisingly mild. Blanched and marinated in three types of vinegar, the hand-packed cloves are nostalgically seasoned with parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.
For you young hotheads, Stranahan’s product line includes such spicier offerings as Southwest Style, spiked with cilantro and a variety of hot peppers.
Price: About $9 for 8 ounces.
Available: In Spokane at Huckleberry’s Natural Market.
