Theodore Roosevelt Colfax, Wash.

Memorial service for Theodore Franklin “Ted” Roosevelt, 78, will be at 11 a.m. today at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Inurnment will follow at Chewelah (Wash.) Cemetery.

Born in Jordan, Mont., Mr. Roosevelt died Saturday. He was a 31-year Colfax resident.

In 1935 he went to work on ranches and followed the rodeo circuit.

Mr. Roosevelt met his wife, Peggy, in the rodeo. They were married in 1946.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Peter Kewitt Construction Co.

In 1968 they moved to Colfax, where he worked on road relocation during the construction of the Lower Granite Dam. He retired in 1972.

His wife died in 1991.

Survivors include three daughters, Thea Puthoff of Chewelah, Sharon Huppert of Sandpoint and Lila Roosevelt of Lacey, Wash.; a brother, Jim Roosevelt of Pomeroy, Wash.; and several grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Kathryn Matt Worley, Idaho

Rosary service for Kathryn Michelle Matt, 20, was Sunday at the Worley Tribal Hall. Funeral Mass was Monday at the tribal hall. Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Worley. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime resident of Worley, Ms. Matt died Friday in an automobile accident on Highway 95 south of Worley.

She worked as a waitress.

Survivors include her common-law husband of 4 years, Ben Morrell; a son, Nathan Matt; her mother, Sylvia Meshell; two brothers, Fleet Matt Jr. and Lyle Whitford; four sisters, Blu and Clarice Matt, and Martina and Loretta Nomee; grandmothers, Virginia Matt and Geraldine Sherwood; and her grandfather, Kenny Shout.

Vivien Brown Spokane

Service for Vivien C. Brown, 80, is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Spokane Valley. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Moah County, S.D., Mrs. Brown died Nov. 10. She was a 29-year Spokane resident.

Mrs. Brown was a published poet and writer, and was a member of the Trailmakers Riding Club.

She was a longtime member of the Mormon church.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Brown; two sons, Orva Warren of Post Falls and Arden Warren of Miliani, Hawaii; two daughters, Berwyn Divilbiss and Nola Lloyd, both of Spokane; four stepsons, James, Kenneth, Johnathan and Roy Brown; four stepdaughters, Diana Payne, Shirley Kluver, Joanne Brown and Virginia McGovern; 36 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane Kidney Center.

Robert Olmsted Spokane

Memorial service for Robert K. Olmsted, 95, will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 27 at Valleyford Community Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Olmstead, who died Sunday, was born in Spokane.

He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from Washington State University.

Mr. Olmstead was a teacher in the Northwest and during World War II and taught troops at Yale University for the Department of Defense. He then returned to Washington state and served as superintendent of schools in Starbuck, Wash., and Sprague, Wash. He also taught at Kelso (Wash.) High School. He was a department head at Bremerton Community College and retired in 1974.

Mr. Olmstead returned to Spokane in 1996.

His wife of 45 years, Mino (Rust) Olmsted, died in 1984.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane Suto of Spokane; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Helen `Marguerite’ Knudsen Spokane

Service for Helen “Marguerite” Knudsen, 88, will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Deer Park. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Knudsen, a 35-year Spokane resident, died Saturday. She was born in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mrs. Knudsen was a homemaker.

Her husband, Walter, died in 1981.

Survivors include three sons, Andrew Knudsen of Clayton, Wash., Levi Knudsen of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Willard Knudsen of Dolan Springs, Ariz.; five daughters, Jean Carpenter of Spokane, Joyce Barnes of Deer Park, Christine Beamis of Coeur d’Alene, Holly Moore of Blanchard, Idaho, and Judy Thomson of Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Cora Kesner of Sioux City and Leola Smith of Kinman, S.C.; 29 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Larry Earl Tok, Alaska

No service will be held for Larry Wayne Earl, a former longtime Sandpoint resident. Alaska Cremation Center in Beyers, Alaska, is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Tacoma, Mr. Earl died Oct. 15. He was 53.

He graduated from Sandpoint High School. He worked as a communications technician and a counselor in the Navy for 20 years. He retired in 1984.

Mr. Earl worked for several years as a correspondent for The Spokesman-Review. He moved to Tok in 1996.

He is survived by a brother, Dick Earl, and two sisters, Helen Powers and Marian Street, all of Eagle Point, Ore.

Edna Dow Spokane

Memorial service for Edna L. Dow, 87, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Born in Dayton, Wash., Mrs. Dow died Sunday. She was a resident of Spokane for 83 years.

Mrs. Dow worked as a book binder at C.W. Hill Co. for more than 20 years and also worked at several other print shops.

She was a volunteer with the Union Gospel Mission.

Survivors include a son, William Dow of Nine Mile Falls; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission.

Charles `Roy’ Sutton Spokane

No service will be held for Charles L. “Roy” Sutton, 77, at his request. Spokane Cremation and Burial Service is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Scott City, Kan., Mr. Sutton died Saturday. He was a resident of Spokane for 10 years.

Mr. Sutton worked as a carpenter.

He is survived by a son, Robert Sutton of Spokane; two daughters, Sharon Franklin of Spokane and Judy Shannon of Hayden Lake, Idaho; eight grandchildren and 12 grandchildren.

Jack Zachary Worley, Idaho

Rosary for Jack David Zachary, 25, will be at 7 p.m. today at the Worley Tribal Community Hall. Burial Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at the community hall with burial to follow at the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Cemetery in De Smet, Idaho. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Zachary, who was born in Spokane, died Sunday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Highway 278 south of Rockford. Mr. Zachary grew up in Worley and graduated from Lakeside High School in Plummer in 1993. He attended Haskell Junior College in Lawrence, Kan., where he played football, and returned to Worley in 1995.

He worked at Rainier Lumber Mill and then became a security guard for the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Casino and was a reserve officer for the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Law Enforcement Department.

Mr. Zachary was also a volunteer with the Worley E.M.T. Department and had worked security at clubs in the Spokane area.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Mission Catholic Church in De Smet.

Survivors include a daughter, Shailee Zachary of Plummer; his mother, Caron Zachary of Lapwai, Idaho; and two sisters, Lucille Hermiston of Worley and Sharon Zanca of Wellpinit, Wash.
