Lorin Greenfield Sagle, Idaho

Service for Lorin A. Greenfield, 90, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Sandpoint Christian Center with burial to be at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Greenfield, who was born in Mercer, N.D., died Friday.

Born in Mercer, N.D., he moved to the Sandpoint area in 1918 and attended Bonner County schools.

Mr. Greenfield married Ruby Stellpflue in 1928, and they moved to Seattle in 1932. He worked in the timber industry and coal mines and later for Pacific Car and Foundry in Renton, Wash. He retired in 1972 and moved to Sagle in 1973.

He was a member of the Sandpoint Christian Center.

Mr. Greenfield was preceded in death by his wife.

Survivors include three children, Jackie Searight of Lake Havasu, Ariz., Billie Buchanan of Missoula and Roger Greenfield of Sagle; two sisters, Peggy Lee of Coeur d’Alene and Esther Tierney of Lewiston; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Adam Guffin Deer Park

Service for Adam C. Guffin, 18, will be at 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Wake will be Wednesday evening at the Moses Family Longhouse in Wellpinit, Wash. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Wellpinit Presbyterian Cemetery.

A lifetime Spokane area resident, Mr. Guffin died Saturday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Deer Park on Highway 395.

He was born in Spokane and was a junior at Riverside High School.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Randy and Stacey Guffin of Coeur d’Alene; his mother and stepfather, Sandra and Alan Cobb of Deer Park; a sister, Maria Guffin of Deer Park; two stepbrothers, Josh Cobb of Nine Mile Falls and Kyle Dreher of Coeur d’Alene; a stepsister, Bethany Cobb of Nine Mile Falls; his grandparents, Ruth and Isaac Fortner of Chattaroy, and Leonard and Marian Guffin of Phoenix; and his great-grandparents, Clara and Floyd Guffin of Spokane.

Jackson Martz Moyie Springs, Idaho

Service for Jackson Neil “Jack” Martz, 72, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Mountainview Cemetery in Mullan, Idaho.

Mr. Martz, who was born in Chicago, died Saturday.

He served with the Navy and lived in Los Angeles before moving to Mullan in 1972. He worked as a miner for Hecla Mining Co. and retired in 1989.

Mr. Martz married Barbara Grove in 1989. They moved to Moyie Springs in 1997.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Clifton Martz of Mullan, William Martz of Juliaetta, Idaho, and Andrew Martz of St. Maries; a daughter, Janine Hanley of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Tammy Bourassa of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; three stepsons, Mathew Halverson of Moyie Springs, John Steen of Spirit Lake, Idaho, and Phillip Bourassa of Kentucky; a brother, James Martz of Illinois; a sister, Carolyn Cowdray of Arizona; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Katie Brereton Spokane

Memorial service for Katie Lynn Brereton, 16, will be at 4 p.m. today at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3606 S. Schafer Road. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Miss Brereton died Thursday.

She was a junior at University High School, where she was on the honor roll and was a member of the cross country team.

Survivors include her parents, Don and Terri Brereton of Spokane; a sister, Leah Brereton; a brother, Ryan Brereton of Spokane; and her grandparents, Joyce Brereton of Spokane, and Al and Bonnie Heaner of Grangeville, Idaho.

Ralph Wilbur Spokane

No service will be held for Ralph E.A. Wilbur, 88. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wilbur, who was born in Lynn, Mass., died Thursday.

He served with the Marine Corps in Shanghai in the 1930s.

A 58-year Spokane resident, he worked as a millwright at Kaiser Aluminum at Trentwood for more than 20 years before retiring in the 1960s.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Grayce; three sons, James and Thomas Wilbur, both of Spokane, and Thomas Wilbur of North Carolina; a daughter, Midge Hohn of Spokane; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Helen Hayward Coeur d’Alene

Service for Helen B. Hayward, 87, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene with burial to follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Hayward, who was born in Barnett, Mo., died Saturday.

She married Enos Hayward in 1932 and homesteaded in Wyoming while he worked as a school teacher. In 1937 they moved to Coeur d’Alene from Casper, Wyo.

Mrs. Hayward worked as the head cook at Lake City Hospital in Coeur d’Alene for many years before retiring in 1974. She also operated a child-care nursery at her home for more than 18 years.

She was a member of Community United Methodist Church and the Lake City Senior Citizens and a former member of the Rebekah Lodge.

Mrs. Hayward was involved in several local senior pinochle circles.

Her husband died in 1971.

Survivors include a daughter, Adella Johnson of Coeur d’Alene; two sisters, Ruth Huffman and Marjorie Taffner, both of Wyoming; and two granddaughters, Lori and Donita.

Darwin Adams Spokane

Memorial service for Darwin B. Adams, 60, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

A 25-year Spokane resident, Mr. Adams died Sunday. He was born in Ogden, Utah.

He worked as a foreman with Kaiser Aluminum at Trentwood for more than 20 years.

His survivors include four daughters, Christine Robinson of Coeur d’Alene, and Karleen Adams-Smith, Angela Huntley and Ruschell Adams, all of Spokane; three sons, Darwin and Steven Adams, both of Spokane, and Aaron Adams of Deer Park; three brothers, Nik and Tim Adams, both of Spokane, and Calvin Adams of Seattle; two sisters, Bunny Andrews of Burley, Idaho, and Laurel Adams of Orem, Utah; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Lucile Zirbel Spokane

Private service will be held for Lucile “Momo” Shepherd Zirbel, 91, at a later date. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Zirbel, who was born in New York, died Friday.

She moved to Lewiston in 1938 and later to Clarkston, Wash.

Mrs. Zirbel worked as a secretary and treasurer of the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce, Lewiston Round-Up Board and Moose Tyler and Stonebraker Insurance. She later became part owner of Zirbel Transport and Wood Byproducts and retired in 1974.

She moved to California, Tri-Cities and then to Spokane 12 years ago.

Survivors include a son, John Shepherd Jr. of Spokane; a daughter, Sandra Hill of Castro Valley, Calif.; two brothers, John Sisley of Rome, Ga., and William Sisley of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Eileen Sisley of Athens, Ga.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Robert Skindlov Spokane

Memorial service for Robert E. “Bob” Skindlov, 88, will be at 1 p.m. today at Central Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Skindlov, who was born in Sandpoint, died Friday.

His family moved to Spokane in 1917, and he graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

He worked as a salesman for Graybar Electric Co.

Mr. Skindlov served on the board for Meals On Wheels. He was a charter member of Central Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dorothy; a son, James Skindlov of Connell, Wash.; a daughter, Christine Henning of Thornton, Wash.; a brother, Allen Skindlov; three sisters, Marcella Dethman, Doris Hollimon and Helen Cooper; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Central Lutheran Church, Meals On Wheels, the Union Gospel Mission or the Rockwood Health Care Renovation.

N.B. `Basil’ Coleman Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for N.B. “Basil” Coleman, 88, will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Coleman, who was born in Joplin, Mo., died Monday.

His family homesteaded in Missouri and Wyoming before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1935.

He worked at various jobs, including in the shipyards in Tacoma during World War II.

Mr. Coleman returned to Coeur d’Alene in 1945 and worked as a commercial and residential building contractor until retiring in 1973.

He was a member of Coeur d’Alene First Assembly of God Church. He also served on board, and helped in the construction of two additions to the church.

He volunteered in the building of the North Idaho Museum and was involved in the Republican Party.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Pearl; a son, David Coleman of Tacoma; four sisters, Virgie Cryderman of Spokane, Ruby Kabela of Arizona, Velma Stacy of California and Ina Graves of Eugene, Ore.; two brothers, Lorren Coleman of Sumas, Wash., and Harley Coleman of Lynnwood, Wash.; and three grandchildren.

Ardell `Murph’ Meredith Post Falls

Private family service for Ardell W. “Murph” Meredith, 81, will be held at a later date. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Meredith, who was born in South Shore, S.D., died Jan. 1.

He was raised in North Idaho and was a longtime area resident. He farmed in the Plummer-Worley (Idaho) area and also owned the Meredith Bros. Sawmill in the 1950s and 1960s.

Mr. Meredith drove a school bus for the Plummer School District for 15 years and had worked for the Gateway Highway District.

He was a charter member of the Gateway Fire Protection District for 12 years and he served as commissioner. He later settled in Post Falls.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Verna; a son, Steve Meredith of Dalton Gardens, Idaho; three daughters, Lynn Brewer of Florida, Carol Bowmer of Plummer and Rose Ann Grim of Liberty Lake; a brother, Elwood Meredith of Nebraska; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Chester Stogsdill Coeur d’Alene

Service for Chester I. Stogsdill, 86, will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls.

Mr. Stogsdill, who was born in Fullerton, Calif., died Friday.

He graduated from high school in Fullerton and served with the Navy during World War II as an electrician 1st class in the Pacific. He later returned to California.

Mr. Stogsdill worked as an electrician for Hunt Foods in California and retired in 1978. He moved to the Post Falls area in 1985.

His wife, Alyce, died in 1984.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Stogsdill of Nevada, and Richard and Gerald Talbot, both of California; three daughters, Constance Meiner and Sue Emme, both of California, and Patricia Hyden of Coeur d’Alene; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Douglas Baker Arlington, Texas

Memorial service for Douglas Baker, 73, was held Dec. 2 at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Arlington. Moore Funeral Home in Arlington was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Baker, who was born in San Francisco, died Nov. 26.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Nevada in Reno.

Mr. Baker served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War.

He moved to Kellogg in 1949, and worked as a research engineer, zinc plant superintendent, smelter superintendent, manager of metallurgy and assistant to the vice president at the Bunker Hill Co.

He moved to Arlington 21 years ago and worked for RSR Corp. in Dallas, retiring as general manager.

Mr. Baker was a member of the American Institute of Metallurgy Engineers, the Elks Lodge and St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Beverly; a daughter, Lisa Day of Decatur, Texas; and a granddaughter.

Louise Gray Sandpoint

Visitation for Louise Christine Gray, 103, will be today from 2-6 p.m. at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Service will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint. Mrs. Gray, who was born in Pender, Neb., died Sunday.

She grew up and attended school in Thurston County, Neb., and later married Robert Gray. He died in 1928.

Mrs. Gray had served as a pastor for the Assembly of God Church in Nebraska in the 1940s before moving to Sandpoint in 1949.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Buck of Sandpoint; three grandchildren, Shirley, Marjorie and Fred; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Helene Voss Ellensburg

Service for Helene E. Voss, 83, will be at 1 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at the Pines Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Voss, who was born in Rockford, died Friday.

She worked as an stenographer and transcriptionist in Spokane. She also worked as a nurse.

Mrs. Voss was a volunteer with the Ladies Aid Society, Lutheran Volunteer Services and the Disabled American Veterans.

She moved to Ellensburg in 1989.

Her husband preceded her in death Survivors include five daughters, Peggy Fischer of Yakima, Kathy Derry of Ellensburg, Joyce Voss of Selah, Wash., Becky Register of Portland and Dixie Hackwell of Iowa; a son, Dan Dotey of Eads, Colo.; a sister, Agnes Kirkman of Pullman; three brothers, Walter, Paul and Raymond Frenz, all of Portland; 22 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Darlene Forster Pullman

Memorial service for Darlene Odell Forster, 67, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash. Inurnment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Steptoe, Wash.

Born in Colfax, Mrs. Forster died Sunday.

She graduated from Steptoe High School in 1950. She married Norman Schroder in 1953, and they moved to Colfax, where she worked at St. Ignatious Hospital. In 1956 they moved to Pullman and later divorced.

She then married Ted Forster; they later divorced.

Mrs. Forster was a homemaker and a member of the Colfax Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Gary Schroder of Maple Valley, Wash.; a daughter, Susie Schroder of Seattle; a brother, Calvin Odell of Pullman; a sister, Willene Merriman of San Diego; and two grandsons.
