Hints From Heloise

Dear Heloise: Love your column! I use many of your methods around my home. I use potpourri in the ashtray in my car. It keeps the car smelling sweet and fresh and discourages smokers from using the ashtray; therefore, they don’t smoke in the car.

Thanks for many years of help. - Harriet May, Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Dear readers: Vinegar has such a multitude of very helpful uses around the home. It’s environmentally friendly and a cheap cleaner as well. For my brand-new, revised and updated Heloise vinegar pamphlet, please send $3 and a long, self-addressed, stamped (55 cents) envelope to Heloise/Vinegar, P.O. Box 795001, San Antonio, TX 78279-5001.

Did you know that you can use vinegar to remove the discoloration from an aluminum pot? All you do is pour one cup of vinegar and one cup of water in the pot and boil the stain away. Then wash, rinse well and dry. - Heloise
