Produce expected to be available this week at area farmers’ markets (depending on weather; shop early for best selection):
Spokane Farmers’ Market (Wednesday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., First Covenant Church parking lot at Second and Division in Spokane): spinach, leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce, orache, salad mix, beets, carrots, turnips, green onions, green garlic, Bright Lights chard, Swiss chard, kale, mustard greens, arugula, orach, bok choy, new potatoes (red and Yukon gold), fava beans, snap peas, shell peas, pea pods, assorted herbs, edible flowers, cherries, strawberries, fresh chicken and beer and assorted baked goods.
Kootenai County Farmers’ Market (Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Highway 95 and Prairie Avenue in Coeur d’Alene): Chard, sugar snap peas, shell peas, strawberries, new potatoes, carrots, beets, lettuces, salad mixes, spinach, kale, cabbage, collards, celery, mustards, assorted herbs, zucchini, napa cabbage, radicchio, honey, natural beef and chicken, jerky and fresh eggs.
Farmers’ Market at Sandpoint (Wednesday 3 to 5:30 p.m., Harvest Festival and final market day Saturday 9 a.m. to noon, at Farmin Park, Third and Main): Lettuce, salad mix, mustard greens, spinach, radishes, turnips, snow peas, sugar snap peas, green onions, garlic greens, assorted herbs, bok choy, broccoli, edible flowers, strawberries, huckleberries, honey and fresh eggs.
Colville Farmers Market (Wednesday noon. to 6 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Hawthorne and Elm Street, Colville): Strawberries, cherries, salad mixes, spinach, lettuce, radishes, onions, beets, cabbage, turnips, broccoli, fresh cut herbs, pies, breads, cookies, jams and jellies, vegetable and herb starts and various fruit trees and bushes.
Cheney Farmers Market (Sundays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on College Street between First and Second): Strawberries, cherries, new potatoes, various greens, tomatoes, peas, broccoli, rhubarb, various herbs, green peppers, onions and organic and specialty breads.
