Evelyn Boekel St. Maries

Visitation for Evelyn E. Boekel, 86, will be today from noon to 7 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Graveside service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Boekel, who was born in Montana, died Friday.

She grew up and graduated from high school in Montana and moved to the Rathdrum Prairie with her family in the early 1930s.

Mrs. Boekel married Fred Boekel in 1935 and was a homemaker.

She was a member of Friends Church in Hayden Lake.

She was past matron of the Rathdrum Order of the Eastern Star and past guardian of Bethel 41 Job’s Daughters.

Mrs. Boekel was also a member of the Farm and Fireside Club in Rathdrum and was active in gardening, crafts and cross-country skiing.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976.

Survivors include two sons, William Boekel of Rathdrum and F. Neil Boekel of Wilbur, Wash.; a daughter, Ann Todd of St. Maries; a sister, Frances Ryum of Kennewick; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Lyle Nelson Spokane

Visitation for Lyle Duane Nelson, 81, will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home. Service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Central Baptist Church. Inurnment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Nelson, who was born in Alden, Iowa, died Saturday.

He was in the Army during World War II, serving on active duty for 12 years. He married Naoma Walker in 1949.

Mr. Nelson was a 35-year member of the Central Baptist Church, a 40-year member of the Disabled American Veterans and also served as the Department Chaplain. He was a 25-year member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, a member of the Mid-City Concerns Downtown Senior Center for 15 years, and a member of the COPS North Central for six years. He also volunteered for the Meals On Wheels program.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Duane Nelson of Spokane and Timothy Nelson of Post Falls; two daughters, Marcella Vines of Louisville, Ky., and Susan Blue of Whitehouse, Texas; a brother, Maynard Nelson of Sacramento, Calif.; a sister, Marian Lorenz of Gig Harbor, Wash.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Eva Seifert Spokane

Memorial service for Eva B. Seifert, 82, will be held at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Seifert, who was born in Norton, Kansas, died Saturday. She was a 65-year Spokane resident, and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Rufus, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Nilsen; a brother, Lyle Jurey; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Charlotte `Chatts’ (Golm) Smith Mesa, Ariz.

No service will be held for Charlotte A. “Chatts” (Golm) Smith, 85.

Mrs. Smith, who was born in Spokane, died June 24.

She grew up in Lamona and Odessa, Wash., and lived in Okanogan, Wash., before settling in Spokane, where she married Everett Smith.

Mrs. Smith had worked in the office of D.N. & E. Walter Co. and moved to Mesa, Ariz., in the early 1980s.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include a sister, Polly Kelly, and a brother, Charles “Bud” Golm, both of Hayden, Idaho.

Kenneth Keeney Spokane

Visitation for Kenneth H. Keeney, 81, will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today and from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash. Service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at the St. John (Wash.) Methodist Church. Burial will be at the St. John Cemetery.

Mr. Keeney, who was born in St. John, died Friday.

He served in the Army during World War II in the Company K 34th Infantry where he was a combat infantryman, marksman and rifleman. He served in Japan and the Philippines. Mr. Keeney received the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan) and the Philippine Liberation Service Medal with one bronze star. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

After his discharge he returned to St. John and married Mabel Purdy in 1946. They farmed around the St. John area until moving to Colville, where he was a logger. They divorced in 1968.

Mr. Keeney moved to Spokane, where he worked for Armour Meats in the meatpacking and processing plant for 20 years. When the plant closed in 1970, he moved to LaCrosse, Wash., where he managed a large corporate ranch. He retired in 1986 and moved back to St. John. He moved to Spokane in 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, JoAnne Lindquist of St. John; two sons, Melvin and Michael Keeney, both of Spokane; two brothers, Joe Keeney of Spokane and Martin Keeney of Porterville, Calif.; two sisters, Faye Graham of Salem. Ore., and May Terrell of St. John; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Mary Snook Spokane

Memorial service for Mary M. Snook, 95, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Riverview Terrace Chapel at the Riverview Care Center. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Snook, who was born in Egypt, Wash., died Thursday. She was a 40-year Spokane resident.

She married Edwin Snook in 1924 and was a homemaker. They moved to Denver and later to Amarillo, Texas. After her husband retired they moved to Washington state.

Mrs. Snook was a member of the Faith Bible Church, and was active in the Christian Woman’s Club and the Women’s Auxiliary of the World War II.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include two grandchildren, Kimberlee Barnwell of Arlington, Texas and Kelly Snook of Washington, D.C.; 3 stepgrandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Devin Sallee Fairfield

Graveside inurnment for Devin Sallee, 48, was held Monday at the Mica Peak Cemetery, Elder Road, Spokane County. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Fairfield was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sallee, who was born in Lewiston, died Monday.

He graduated from Greenriver Community College and later attended the University of Washington for one year.

Mr. Sallee worked in construction, and was a singer and guitar player.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki; four sons, Clint and Lucas Sallee, both of Kent, Wash. and Nathan and Daniel Sallee, both of Fairfield; a daughter, Sara Sallee of Fairfield; his father and stepmother, Bob and Birdie Sallee of Spokane; and a brother, Eric Sallee of Bellevue, Wash.

Ann Doherty Spokane

Vigil service for Ann M. Doherty, 60, will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Doherty, who was born in Parsons, Kansas, died Sunday.

She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Pendleton, Ore., and entered religious life as a Sister of St. Francis of Philadelphia.

Mrs. Doherty left the religious community in 1978 and became the principal of St. Thomas More School in 1979, where she was currently principal.

She formerly served on the Washington State Catholic Conference Board, the Religion XII National Catholic Educational Association and on the board of Trustees at Gonzaga University. She served on the Washington State Private School Advisory Board and was co-chairman of the Jubilee 2000 committee.

Mrs. Doherty had received the award of Region XII distinguished principal for 1991 and 1992 and also received the Distinguished Principal Award in 1992 from the NCEA. She served as a member of the Washington State Catholic Conference for six years ending her term in 1999.

Survivors include her mother, Mabel Doherty; and three sisters, Regina Russell, Carolyn Thompson and Rita Blade.

Sharon Albert Spokane

Service for Sharon Rae Albert, 59, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Albert, who was born in Maddock, N.D., died Friday. She was a 51-year Spokane resident.

She attended Lewis and Clark and West Valley high schools, and married Glenn Albert in 1967.

Mrs. Albert was a homemaker and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1474. She was also a member of the Tucson (Ariz.) Auto Cycle Racing Association and a former member of the Spokane County R.E.A.C.T.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Marvin and Mark Lewis, both of Spokane; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Helen Davis Walnut Creek, Calif.

Private service for Helen Corner Davis, 88, will be held in California. Oakmont Memorial Park and Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Davis, who was born in Pasco, died Wednesday.

She was a homemaker. She moved to Spokane in 1975 and to Walnut Creek in 1989.

Mrs. Davis was a member of the Republican Party, the Washington State Council on Aging, Phi Sigma Alpha sorority, the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church and the Grace Presbyterian Church.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons, John Davis of Arnold, Calif., Richard Davis of Moraga, Calif. and Sean Davis of Davis, Calif.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Cecil Wilson Spokane

Memorial service for Cecil R. Wilson, 85, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wilson, who was born in Greentop, Mo., died Friday. He was a 51-year Spokane resident.

He graduated from high school in Edgemont, S.D., and was in the National Guard and the Civilian Conservation Corps. He later attended Washington State University and participated in a speech program at Gonzaga University where he won top honor for his speech on economics.

After he graduated from high school he moved to Washington state, where he worked various jobs such as goat milker, dishwasher, taxi driver, census taker and scraped the cement slabs at Coulee Dam with a steel brush. He later worked for Northern Pacific Railroad as a conductor for 44 years.

Mr. Wilson was a 45-year member of the Manito Lions Club, and was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Moose Gleemen, Masonic Oriental Lodge No. 74 where he also served as the chaplain for many years.

His first wife, of 46 years, Dorothy, died in 1987. His second wife, of 11 years, Ellen, died in 1999.

Survivors include two daughters, Maxine Trenbeath and Catherine Pence; two sisters, Carlene Schonwald and Estella Calland; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Frank Haylette Spokane

Private inurnment for Frank K. Haylette, 100, was held June 28 at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Haylette, who was born in Genesee, Idaho, died June 22. He was a 94-year Spokane resident.

He owned and operated a dry-cleaning business for 18 years and later worked in the real estate rental business.

Mr. Haylette was a member of the Tyrian Lodge No. 96, Masonic Lodge, and was a 75-year member of the Spokane Consistory of Scottish Rite bodies and a lifetime member of the El Katif Shrine.

His wife of 70 years, Violette, died in 1992.

Survivors include two daughters, June Madge of Spokane and Kaye Lake of Port Townsend, Wash.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
