William `Bill-Swede’ Nordlind Coeur d’Alene
A celebration of life for William T. “Bill-Swede” Nordlind, 84, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the family home, 934 N. 16th St., Coeur d’Alene. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Nordlind, who was born in Judith Gap, Mont., died Sunday.
He moved to North Idaho in 1933 and worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. He also was a commercial fisherman on the Pacific Ocean.
Mr. Nordlind later went to work for Diamond International and retired in 1978.
He was active in hunting and outdoor recreation in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area and the St. Joe River area.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Rose Mary; three daughters, Karen DeYoung of Elko, Nev., Diane Mauman of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Inez Nordlind of Coeur d’Alene; three sisters, Abby Manchester of Spokane, Inez Barton of Post Falls and Vonnie McKinley of Shelby, Mont.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Catherine Spitz Spokane
Vigil service for Catherine Spitz, 59, will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Spitz, who was born in Guthrie, Okla., died Sunday.
She was a 16-year Spokane resident and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Spitz was active in politics and had served as the Republican Party county chairman of Logan County in Oklahoma.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Leon; two sons, Joseph Spitz of Spokane and David Spitz of Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter, Teresa Shimer of Houston; a stepdaughter, Patti Knouff of Spokane; a brother, Tom Pierce of Denver; a sister, Martha Channel of Guthrie; and six grandchildren.

Harold Nelson Spokane
Memorial service for Harold L. Nelson, 88, is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Orchard Prairie Cemetery.
Mr. Nelson, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday.
He was a farmer and raised racehorses. He was a member of the Orchard Prairie Grange.
Survivors include his wife, Valerie; a son, Johnathan Schock, and two daughters, Amy Sitkoski and Angela Schock, all of Spokane; and three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
Jolene (Schumaker) Wardell Spokane
Funeral Mass for Jolene Ann (Schumaker) Wardell, 55, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Yakima. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wardell, who was born in Yakima, died Sunday. She was a 22-year Spokane resident.
She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1963.
She married Mike Wardell in 1969 and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and often did volunteer work for the church.
Survivors include her husband; and two sisters, Gale Willis of Selah, Wash., and Marie Schnieder of Yakima.
Ronald Wilke Spokane
Memorial service for Ronald August Wilke, 64, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Providence Center for Faith and Healing. Spokane Cremation and Burial Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wilke, who was born in Cincinnati, died Sunday.
He graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati with a master’s degree in microbiology. He received a master’s degree in hospital administration, from St. Louis University.
Mr. Wilke did residency work at Sacred Heart Medical Center while working toward his master’s degree at St. Louis University. He worked for several years in the bacteriology unit of the laboratory at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.
He was hired as assistant administrator at Sacred Heart Medical Center in 1972 and eventually became vice president and oversaw several departments, including food and nutrition, environment services, materials, pharmacy, kidney center, security and laundry. He also became Sacred Heart’s liaison with its legal counsel and coordinated the medical center’s policy and procedure activities. He retired in 1998.
Mr. Wilke was a member of the Spokane Club, the Empire Club, the Prosperity Club and the Manito Golf and Country Club.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Mary Ann; and a sister, Jean Heenan.
Marie VanDyke Malden, Wash.
Graveside service for Marie VanDyke, 94, will be 10 a.m. today at the Pine City (Wash.) Cemetery. Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Malden Community Church. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Rosalia, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. VanDyke, who was born in Rosalia, died Saturday.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. VanDyke was a 50-year member of the Kenova Grange and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star’s Malden Chapter, Alpha Club, Malden Community Church, L.W.B., Excella Club and the Duplicate Bridge Club.
Her husband, Paul, died in 1993.
Survivors include three sons, Gene and Gary VanDyke, both of Malden, and Don VanDyke of Rosalia; a brother, George Coker; a half-sister, Velma McKinney; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Whitman County Hospice, Rosalia Fire Department, Malden Community Church or the Pine City Historical Society.
Margaret Appleberg Coeur d’Alene
Funeral Mass for Margaret E. Appleberg, 69, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church in Post Falls. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Appleberg, who was born in Portland, died Saturday.
She had lived in Spokane for many years and was a homemaker, and a member of St. Francis Assisi Roman Catholic Church there.
Mrs. Appleberg moved to Plummer, Idaho, to be near her sister. She later lived at the Valley Vista Nursing Home in St. Maries before settling in Coeur d’Alene earlier this year.
Her husband, Roy, died in 1990.
Survivors include two sons, James Swanson of Reno, Nev., and Albert Swanson of Wilbur, Wash.; two daughters, Theresa Wolff of North Dakota and Debra Nagle of South Dakota; and a sister, Mary Warner of Plummer.
Thomas Wilson Pullman
Memorial service for Thomas O. Wilson, 75, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman. Private graveside service will precede the memorial service at Vineland Cemetery in Clarkston, Wash. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wilson, who was born in Asotin, Wash., died Sunday.
He graduated from high school in Genesee, Idaho, in 1943 and served in the Army during World War II. He served in North Africa, Italy, Germany and Austria.
After he was discharged in 1945, Mr. Wilson moved to Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston Normal School and Lewiston Business College.
He married Jeanette Ogston in 1948.
Mr. Wilson began working for Safeway in Lewiston in 1946. He became assistant manager of the Lewiston Safeway store and in the early 1950s became manager of the Pullman Safeway store. He was manager of the Colfax (Wash.) Safeway store until 1963, when he returned to Pullman.
Mr. Wilson left Safeway in 1965 and was the manager of the Food Service Building at Washington State University for four years and then managed the Central Store at WSU until his retirement in 1986.
He was a 50-year member of the American Legion and a member of the Simpson United Methodist Church and Gideons International.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Maryanne Rieger of Spokane and Marcia Dean of Richland; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Dorothy (Olson) Luby Spokane
Vigil service for Dorothy (Olson) Luby will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mrs. Luby, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday. She was 91.
She graduated from the University if Idaho, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Augustine Parish and St. Monica’s Guild. She was a volunteer with the Sacred Heart Service League and was a 70-year summer resident of Priest Lake.
Her husband of 56 years, Leonard, died in 1992.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Luby of Spokane and James Luby of Bellevue, Wash.; a daughter, Dorothy Luby of Spokane; two brothers, James Olson of Spokane and Robert Olson of Bellevue; two sisters, Elizabeth Reckford of Spokane and Mary Miller of Winthrop, Maine; and two grandchildren.

Emily Bauer Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Emily D. Bauer, 89, will be today at 11 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls.
Mrs. Bauer, who was born in Bishop, Calif., died Saturday.
She moved to Careywood, Idaho, in 1949 and had worked as a secretary for the city of Hayden Lake Road District until retiring.
Mrs. Bauer was a talented musician and an active gardener.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph.
Survivors include a son, Leon Gravelle of Post Falls; a daughter, Suzanne Williams of Denver; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth Beauchamp Everett
Graveside service for Ruth Judith Beauchamp, 88, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Pack River Cemetery near Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Beauchamp, who was born in Lademoen, Norway, died June 26.
She immigrated to America as a child and lived in Ryder, N.D., and graduated from eighth grade there.
She moved to the Selle area near Sandpoint in 1936 and drove a bus for the Bonner County School District for 25 years.
Mrs. Beauchamp also worked in the dietary department at the Bonner General Hospital until retiring in 1981.
She moved to the Everett area in 1995 and was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint.
Survivors include three daughters, Anita Schoonover and Frances Crandell, both of Sandpoint, and Janet Duncan of Spokane; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint.
Dorothy Jackson Spokane
Memorial service for Dorothy P. Jackson, 79, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Jackson, died Saturday.
She was the housekeeping manager at Hawthorne Manor for 20 years.
Her husband, Robert, died in 1966.
Survivors include three daughters, Jane Sharp and Mary Dietrich, both of Spokane, and Cathy Jackson of Spirit Lake, Idaho; two sons, Steve Jackson of Chattaroy and Stuart Jackson of Antioch, Calif.; one brother, Orville Roe of Payette, Idaho; one sister, Mabel Wood of Boise; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Barbara Dominguez Spokane
Memorial service for Barbara Dominguez, 51, will be held at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dominguez, who was born in Kalispell, Mont., died Friday.
She graduated in 1967 from Shadle Park High School, and attended Spokane Community College.
Mrs. Dominguez was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Paul Dominguez of Coeur d’Alene; two daughters, Julia Cricchio and Amanda Dominguez, both of Spokane; her father, Donald Laurich of Coeur d’Alene; a brother, Glen Laurich of Spokane; and one grandchild.
Mary Shelton Longwood, Fla.
Memorial service for Mary T. Shelton, 72, will be at held at a later date. Central Florida Direct Cremation Service in Orlando, Fla. is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Shelton, who was born and raised in Spokane, died July 5.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Shelton moved to Florida in 1972.
Survivors include her husband, Dwayne; two sons, Steve Shelton of Apopka, Fla. and Mark Shelton of California; a daughter, Carole Downey of Nova Scotia; a brother, John Grant of Priest Lake, Idaho; a sister, Joanne King of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
