Bonner County Students Win Pathfinder Awards

Bonner County high school students were recently awarded post secondary education/training scholarships as winners in the local PathFinder marketing competition.

Student teams were assigned to various areas of Sandpoint and then earned points for contacting and persuading businesses to participate in the PathFinder Program, an online database connecting students and educators with area businesses.

Scholarship recipients and their amounts are listed by school team.

First Place ($1,000 each): Alani Price, Sarah Bjerke, Stacie Ostrom and Angie Wood, Sandpoint High School.

Second Place ($500 each): John Malison and Rachel Wilkinson, Clark Fork High School.

Third place ($250 each): Josh Gjoraas and Erin Van Stone, Clark Fork High School.

Fourth place ($250): Chelsea Bushell, Lake Pend Oreille Alternative High School.

Pathfinder is a highly secure site featuring local businesses that offer youth opportunities, such as student and teacher internships, job shadows, career speaker, mentoring, and work place tours.

The competing teams signed up a total of 110 businesses with each one offering one to eight youth opportunities.

North Idaho seniors at the University of Idaho received Alumni Awards for Excellence.

The honored students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.51, have been enrolled at UI for at least three semesters and have an outstanding campus activity record.

Bonners Ferry: Sara Douthit, College of Letters and Sciences.

Coeur d’Alene: Matthew Jones, College of Natural Resources.

Hayden: James Cerven, College of Letters and Sciences.

Moscow: Charlene Belles and Zaid Abdo, both College of Agriculture; Yancy Wright, College of Art and Architecture; Diane Whitney, College of Law; Ronda Barnes, and Celia Doerann-George, both College of Education; Christopher Haagen, College of Engineering; Diana Livada and Carol Perugini, both College of Natural Resources; and Lee Pike, College of Letters and Science.

Priest River: Melissa White, College of Business and Economics.

Sandpoint: Ronald Nelson, College of Engineering.

Troy: Julie Minkler, College of Education.
