Ben Roethlisberger was limping toward the end of practice Wednesday after a teammate stepped on his left foot. Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin didn’t seem worried about his quarterback.

“I’m sure he’s fine,” Tomlin said.

The Steelers didn’t offer any more information, and they didn’t appear concerned that Roethlisberger would be limited during practice today or might not play in Saturday’s exhibition game against Green Bay.

Security guard found dead

A security guard for the Minnesota Vikings was found dead in a motor home on the Minnesota State campus. Frank Foster, 66, was a retired St. Paul police officer who had worked for the Vikings for 14 years.

Warner adjusts to backup role

Kurt Warner wants to set the record straight.

The 36-year-old quarterback plans to play out the remaining two years of his contract with the Arizona Cardinals.

And all that talk about retiring after he lost the starting job to Matt Leinart last year? It was just that, talk.

“What I was saying when I said that was, the more that kind of stuff happens, the more I think retirement’s getting closer,” Warner said.

Japanese receiver practices

Noriaki Kinoshita, a 24-year-old receiver, is practicing with the Atlanta Falcons in hopes of achieving this goal: to be the first Japanese player to get on the field for a real NFL game.

Kinoshita spent the last three years in NFL Europa. Kinoshita will likely take a few snaps in Atlanta’s preseason opener against the New York Jets on Friday.

Around the league

Kansas City running back Priest Holmes has a message for holdout All-Pro Larry Johnson: If you don’t want the job, I’ll take it. Holmes turns 34 in October and has been out of football since 2005 after suffering what many figured was a career-ending injury. … Cleveland offensive guard Eric Steinbach sprained his right knee when he fell on it at practice, an injury the club will surely treat cautiously for the remainder of training camp. … Buffalo rookie running back Dwayne Wright returned to practice, a day after he spent 13 hours in a hospital with an allergic reaction to something he ate. Wright is allergic to avocados and tomatoes, and believes there might have been some tomato residue in a sandwich wrap he ate Monday.
