People: She won’t let go of her roots

Some people have good hair days. Jaclyn Smith has had a good hair life.

It was a television shampoo commercial that got her into acting. Young and old copied her dark mane when she was one of the stars of “Charlie’s Angels.”

Tonight, Smith returns as the host of the Bravo series “Shear Genius” (10 p.m., cable channel 65 in Spokane, 66 in Coeur d’Alene).

The series pits hairstylist against each other in a series of elimination challenges. The winner gets a $100,000 grand prize.

As important as hair has been to Smith, she has never had the urge to pick up a pair of scissors to chop some locks.

“I wouldn’t even dream to take it on. I think people underestimate what it takes to be an incredible stylist,” she says.

“It isn’t just the talent with scissors. It’s the vision. And it’s really taking into consideration that individual. … You have to have an innate talent for it.”

Asked whether she’d be willing to let this season’s winner re-do her hair, Smith pauses, then says: “No. They’re all very talented. But you know what? You get into your groove.”

Bad life days

Actress Heather Locklear is seeking treatment for anxiety and depression, her publicist said Tuesday.

“She requested an in-depth evaluation of her medication and entered into a medical facility for proper diagnosis and treatment,” a statement said.

Blown out of proportion?

Amy Winehouse‘s health issues may not be quite so dire as originally reported.

The British soul diva’s father, Mitch Winehouse, initially said she was suffering from early-stage emphysema brought on by smoking cigarettes and crack cocaine.

But he backtracked in a subsequent interview, saying she has shown “traces of emphysema” and that “with patience, her lungs will recover completely.”

Well, that tour’s trashed

British singer Boy George‘s plans for a U.S. tour this summer – including a free concert for the New York City Department of Sanitation, where he once performed community service in a drug case – are on hold now that he’s been denied a visa to enter the country.

His managers said the former Culture Club frontman was banned because he’s awaiting trial in London on charges of imprisoning a man in his home.

“I am getting my life together and was really looking forward to performing in concert for all my loyal fans,” he said.
