Fusion Teriyaki among fire calls

Busy mothers aren’t the only ones who get distracted and burn up pots of food.

Spokane Valley firefighters responded at 2:46 a.m. Oct. 16 to Fusion Teriyaki at 5815 E. Sprague Ave., where a pan of food was left cooking when the restaurant closed.

“It pretty much burned up everything in the pan,” but there was no structural damage, Deputy Fire Marshal Bill Clifford said.

Overall, the 214 calls in the seven days that ended Wednesday were uneventful.

Clifford said none of eight structure fires caused significant damage, and six brush-fire calls were minor.

Thirteen alarm-system calls were false or minor and 16 vehicle accidents sent only one person to hospital, with minor injuries.

A single hazardous-materials call was for a natural gas odor that firefighters couldn’t detect when they arrived.

Five calls for general service included a couple of familiar cases of small children accidentally locked in cars, but also an adult locked out of a home.
