Late-night hosts make Obama popular target

Late-night comics are over any initial reluctance to make President Barack Obama the butt of their jokes.

The Center for Media and Public Affairs found that Obama was the most joked-about political figure this year through Labor Day.

The Washington-based think tank said that Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jon Stewart and Jimmy Fallon joked about Obama a total of 309 times. Sarah Palin, with 137, was a distant second.

That’s in line with the level of jokes levied at Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

Obama was fourth behind John McCain, Bush and Palin during the year he was elected president.

Modern in Peru, too

Peruvians are miffed over a “Modern Family” episode suggesting their nation is full of backward, violent people.

During an argument between Jay (Ed O’Neill) and his Colombian wife, Gloria (Sofia Vergara), she replies: “Ah, here we go. Because, in Colombia, we trip over goats and we kill people in the street. Do you know how offensive that is? Like we’re Peruvians!”

Peruvian cyberspace lit up with criticism of ABC and Vergara, who brushed aside a torrent of tweets.

After one Twitter user asked her to clarify the incident, she responded in Spanish: “Get a life!!!!!!”
