Coffee Brewer’s Competition coming Oct. 1

Roast House is hosting a Coffee Brewer’s Competition on Oct. 1.

It costs $10 to enter, but all skill levels and brew methods are welcome – professional baristas as well as coffee connoisseurs of every kind.

Roast House will provide contestants with a free 1/2-pound of coffee for practice the week leading up to the event. The brew method is up to each contestant, who will compete with their own equipment. Roast House will have several Baratza grinders available and will also offer use of its Mod Bar espresso brewing system and other tools.

There will also be music, prizes, beer and food for purchase.

Judges are: chef Molly Patrick of The Blackbird and Manito Tap House, Douglas LeBar of The Mason Jar, and Paul Fish, founder of Mountain Gear.

The contest celebrates the release of El Limonar coffee from Finca El Limonar in La Libertad, Guatemala. The family-run farm was founded in 1955 and is known for its sustainable agricultural practices.

The competition starts at 6 p.m. Oct. 1 at Roast House, 423 E. Cleveland Ave. Call (509) 995-6500.
