Five-run second inning sparks Indians to win over Tri-City

PASCO – The Spokane Indians outhit the Tri-City Dust Devils 5-3 on Tuesday night.

And that’s if you only count the Indians’ second inning.

Spokane used a five-run second inning and stingy relief pitching to defeat the Dust Devils 8-3 in the middle game of a three-game Northwest League series at Gesa Stadium.

The Indians sent 10 runners to the plate in the second, piecing together five singles, two walks and two wild pitches to take a 5-0 lead. Seth Spivey capped the inning with a two-run single.

Spokane relievers Mark Vasquez (1-0), Kaleb Fontenot and C.D. Pelham combined for 6 1/3 innings of one-hit shutout relief, striking out seven. Pelham escaped a one-out, bases-loaded situation in the ninth.

The Indians, who also won Monday’s opener, improved to 3-2 to tie Vancouver for first place in the North Division.
