Man critically injured in fall near Monroe Street Bridge

A man was critically injured Thursday morning after he fell from or near the Monroe Street Bridge.

Spokane firefighters treated the man on the south bank of the Spokane River.

Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer said man fell from the area near the southeast corner of Monroe Street and Spokane Falls Boulevard.

Schaeffer said the man was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in critical condition.

“The man was never in the river, but found about two-thirds down the slope,” Schaeffer said.

Rescuers were called to the area at the bottom of Huntington Park just before 10 a.m.
