Eastern State Hospital patient captured after brief escape

Spokane police early Friday arrested a man who escaped from Eastern State Hospital.

Dustin P. Leeds, 39, was last seen at the mental hospital in Medical Lake about 8 p.m. Thursday. He was reported missing about 10 p.m., the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Leeds has a history of assault and has an unspecified psychotic disorder, the sheriff’s office said.

Spokane police located Leeds at the Intermodel Center downtown and he was arrested without incident.

In 2009, Leeds drove an SUV into the Spokane County Jail garage door.
