County crews install new pedestrian beacon at Mead High

After nearly two years of construction, the new Sullivan Road Bridge over the Spokane River is about to open.

Hennessey Funeral Home is training a black labradoodle to be a therapy dog for anyone who needs the kind of cheering up only a dog can provide.

After experiencing oversized sidewalk games in Seattle, Spokane Sidewalk Games founder Ryan Oelrich saw their potential for bringing the Spokane community together. “It was such a great experience to watch business professionals and tourists and homeless play games together,” Oelrich said. “I wanted to come back and make it uniquely our own.”

On Tuesday, about 60 drivers from Waste Management sat through an hour of training for a program called Waste Watch, which encourages drivers to become like a block watch on wheels.

Koda is available for adoption from the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service. Shelter workers say he is an energetic, friendly, happy dog who needs an active family. Because he is big and strong, Koda would do best in a family with a strong handler and no small children.
