UP train derails along Moyie River

A Union Pacific train derailed about four miles north from Highway 2 on Moyie River Road, Boundary County. The derailment involves 12 railroad cars loaded with grain that derailed due to a mud slide. None of the cars reached the Moyie River and there was no HAZMAT material involved.

Don't look now, but the candidacy filing deadlines for a number of districts, including school boards, is 5 p.m. Friday. The battle for seats in the Coeur d'Alene School District has been intense in the past, as Hard Right advocates have tried to regain the foothold they once had.

2 arrested in Jordan's robbery

On Tuesday, the North Idaho Violent Crimes Task Force arrested two people in connection with the Saturday armed robbery of Jordan's Grocery on 15th Street/CdA. Vincent Kyle Juarez, 18, and a 17YO female, both of Post Falls, were charged in the robbery.

CdA voters OK $68M in levy, bond 

The Coeur d’Alene School district took a risk this year, asking voters to approve a bond and levy totaling $68 million. It was a risk that paid off. Voters approved a $35.5 million construction bond and a $32 million operating levy in Tuesday’s special election. Q: Are you surprised by the outcome?

CdA bond & all levies pass easily 21 

It was a great night for Kootenai County school districts (although not for voter turnout). Voters approved everything on the ballot, from supplemental levies to the Coeur d'Alene school bond and the Lakeland plant facilities levy.

Today is the day that school districts throughout Idaho, incuding the five in Kootenai County, are voting on supplemental levies and possibly bonds. The districts have done their best to provide quality education to the region's public school children. Now it's up to you to help them out by supporting these levies and bonds.

In a column for The Guardian, Cody Delistraty says Coach Mark Few of the Gonzaga Bulldogs may be the main source of hope for struggling Spokane. Delistraty goes on to say that Spokane ranked as this country's 22nd most dangerous city, up from 26th the year before.
