Idaho Falls Newspaper To Sell 

In a startling bit of news for the Idaho newspaper industry, the Post Co announced today that it’s negotiating a deal to sell the business and all its assets – including the Idaho Falls Post Register. The family - and employee-owned newspaper has served Idaho Falls under the Post Co since 1925. (What does this say re: state of Idaho newspapering?)

CdA Budget Proposes Cutting Lawyers 17 

The proposed Coeur d'Alene budget for fiscal 2015-16 calls for adding 15 more police officers and firefighters, while cutting for positions in the city's legal department. City Administrator Jim Hammond doesn’t think the additional officers will lead to a heavier workload for city attorneys. (Question: What do you think of this proposal?)

Woman Dies Saving Toddler 

Great-grandmother Marla Langley made the ultimate sacrifice, when she saw an SUV careening toward her and her 2-year-old great-grandson along a Spokane street. She tossed the toddler out of the way, only to be struck and killed by a driver who later told police that he had blacked out.

Sanders Draws Post Falls Crowd 

Between 100 and 150 local U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders supporters turned out Wednesday to begin a nationwide grassroots campaign for the Democratic presidential primaries next spring. The gathering was part of a nationwide kickoff meeting that connected 3,500 locations online and drew more than 100,000 attendees.

Stranded Motorist Kills Samaritans 

A man who was stopped along a road on Montana's Crow Indian Reservation gunned down a family who tried to help him Wednesday, killing the couple and wounding their daughter, a relative said. A suspect was arrested hours later in Wyoming. (Question: When did you last pick up a hitchhiker?)

Idaho Seeks Science Boost 

The State Department of Education wants students to get a jumpstart on science, in kindergarten. The department also envisions science classes that emphasize research, not rote memorization. And the changes could begin to come by 2016-17. (Question: But is Idaho willing to pay for that improvement? Or does it want to do this on the cheap?)

Liberty Caucus Loses Standing 

The Idaho GOP no longer recognizes and welcomes the Republican Liberty Caucus, according to a blog post by Betsy Russell, Eye on Boise. The resolution recognizing the group, of which former legislator Phil Hart is vice president, expired this summer -- and wasn't renewed.
