Yoga takes on new twist

SEATTLE – The guitarist plugs in his amp and the yoga instructor strips off her baggy skull-patterned boxers to reveal black bike shorts. Then they both warm up for the latest twist on an ancient practice: punk rock yoga. Power yoga, baby yoga, kickboxing yoga, and now this. Has yoga fusion finally gone too far? After all, yoga is a spiritual discipline aimed at creating a sense of deep quiet and inner peace, while punk rock is about being undisciplined and loud. It makes sense to instructor Kimberlee Jensen.

A sanitary scare

Another week, another remake of a hit Japanese movie. First we had Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez tangoing their way through a tepid Americanization of the comedy "Shall We Dance?"

Bloggers expand election coverage

Grass-roots campaigns and public involvement always have been a part of politics, but this election season has witnessed the rise of a new political player: the blogger. When CBS News relied on questionable memos for a report on President Bush's National Guard service, bloggers fired the shots that brought the story down.

If local singer-songwriter Jim Boyd wasn't his own booking agent and promoter, he might have fired himself by now. He's already considering dropping himself from his own label.

‘Dogville’ explores man’s inhumanity

Lars Von Trier is … strange. His 2000 film "Dancer in the Dark," starring the incomparable – and equally strange – Bjork, proved that. As did 1998's "The Idiots," 1997's "The Kingdom" and 1996's "Breaking the Waves."

Existential ‘Huckabees’ heavy, strange

In the wake of 9/11, will human beings choose the chaos of hate or the order of compassion? "I Heart Huckabees" chews on that very big mouthful for two hours of strangeness. It's so personal that writer-director David O. Russell is probably the only person who understands what he's after. But despite everything, I enjoyed it.

Top Seven Scary Movies That You've Likely Never Seen "Ringu" (1998): Didn't like Gore Verbinski's "The Ring"? Go back to Hideo Nakata's original, a film that swept (and scared the hell out of) Japan. Followed by two sequels. (DVD, VHS; 1:36; not rated)

New DVD fitting for dad, uh, son

I've said this before in a column: My 2 1/2-year-old son really likes SpongeBob SquarePants. My wife blames it on me, but really, he likes the little square dude. It's about the only thing he sits still for (raisins no longer tickle his fancy).

IDS TRICK-OR-TREAT. For anyone older than 12, free candy is, unfortunately, a specter of the past. But that doesn't mean Halloween craziness is off limits for the aged. Every year, horror movies scare reasonable, thinking adults into acting like hyperactive kids again.

Singing the early voting blues

I cast my general election ballot this past Monday, along with the few dozen good people of Florida able to find electronic voting machines that weren't spitting out the Daily Double results from Hialeah. The biggest differences I see between me and the Floridians is that I know how to fill out a ballot and I'm reasonably certain Jeb Bush won't keep my vote from being counted. Plus, I'm rarely troubled by hurricanes, shark attacks or sightings of Katherine Harris' silhouette against the moon as she takes

‘Surviving Christmas’ is no gift

Out of the mouths of puppets, a tune in the marionette parody "Team America: World Police" mocks the war epic "Pearl Har- bor" and suggests its star, Ben Affleck, needs acting lessons.

What it is: The Swiffer line of housekeeping products includes gadgets for sweeping, mopping and dusting. They're cheap, easy to use and – best of all – feature disposable cleaning surfaces. What it's all about: The Swiffer Sweeper was the first product to debut – picture a broom with a flat, foot-long swivel head rather than bristles. Swiffer cloths (electro-

WSU hosts Presidents

Voter registration drives seem to be at an all-time high this election season. The next focus is on the only part more important than registering: actually marking the ballot.
