I acclaim Allegra and Russell VanderWilde's doctor's compassionate constructive message ("Take care of each other," Dec. 6).

Looks like Cathy McMorris Rodgers has decided who she's going to stand alongside.

In Monday’s newspaper (December 7, 2020) there is an article about the road maintenance budget and the national ranking of the state’s roads and bridges. Studded snow tires are a big reason that Washington is ranked 45th out of 50. The damage caused by these tires add millions of dollars in repair costs to the shrinking transportation budget each biennium.

This is in response to Dave Helma's "A repugnant cartoon" letter (Tuesday, December 8).

I was pretty much appalled by the coverage of the Chick-Fil-A opening in Spokane. How could you put such a thing on the FRONT PAGE when we have so many fine small businesses in Spokane who are struggling and could use the free advertising?

After reading the article about Rathdrum and North Idaho's COVID response during this surge ("Masks optional in Rathdrum," Dec. 8), I think they might as well develop a "COVID welcome" advertising campaign with billboards, TV and radio to make money and give like-minded people a place to congregate and live free!

The announcement of the resignation of seven members of the Health Advisory Panel leaves me increasing sad and concerned for our community. I completely understand and support their inability to allow their names and actions to be represented by Ms. Clark's detrimental leadership.

I felt compelled to implore you to please keep Leonard Pitts’ columns in the wake of other letter writers' complaints about his column. My advice to those folks would be to move their eyes down the page and not read his column.

Two thirds of the front page of today’s paper (Dec. 8, 2020) was taken up by two major headlines and stories: “Masks Optional in Rathdrum: Freedom from face covering comes at cost of rising COVID-19 cases in North Idaho,” and “Deaths Linked to Nuptials: Wedding guests catch COVID-19, bring virus to work at Grant County long-term care facilities.”

Upon reading today’s (Tuesday) opinion page, I was highly offended by the tirade that Mr Henney offered regarding those of us who are well-informed pertaining to local, national and world events and sometimes expound on it ("Columns worth reading," Dec. 8).

Pages A1 and A10 in the December 8 Spokesman-Review reveal the stark reality of COVID-19. On A1, the front page headline reads, “Masks optional in Rathdrum.” Page A10 lists statistics of worldwide corovavirus cases showing that last week the U.S. alone had more new cases than the combined total of the next nine leading countries. Think about that news and ask why?

After two phone calls this week to Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ offices, one in D.C. and the other here in Spokane, I received the same scripted answer to my question of why has Rep. Rodgers not uttered the words, Joe Biden is the president-elect. Both times I received the reply that she is waiting for the court cases to play out.
