Pass The Canned Bread, Please

Rick Bonino Food Editor

Last month, as you may recall, we fed The Spokesman-Review’s reader food panel bread out of a box - Maple Leaf’s frozen Home Fresh Classic Sourdough - and they liked it.

This month, we fed them bread out of a can - Pillsbury’s Homestyle Loaf, which comes refrigerated in a can like biscuit dough - and they liked it, too.

You simply take the dough out of the can, put it in a pan and bake it.

The moist, dense loaf we tried tasted surprisingly close to homemade.

Now, if we can just find some bread in a bottle … Pillsbury Homestyle Loaf, White Price: $2.19 for 17 ounces (makes 9 slices).

Comments: “Nice, hearty texture. It would be great slathered with butter and raspberry jam.” - Beverly Smick

“Good, heavy bread. I like the crust and the sweet flavor. Not as good as mom’s, but pretty good. Very reasonably priced. Stock up for the holidays!” - Rob Jasperson
