E-diet can help weight goals
Three… two … one… Happy new resolution.
If you’re like most people, you’re recommitting yourself to that healthy eating or weight loss goal for 2005. Here’s one way to help you stick to your resolution: Sign up for a new free service from the American Institute for Cancer Research.
The weekly Health-e-Recipes e-mail includes recipes that are quick, healthy and delicious. They emphasize fruits and vegetables and will help you get a jump on the new USDA guidelines for a healthy diet expected to be released next month. For those who haven’t heard, the USDA is expected to boost its recommendation for the number of servings of fruits and vegetables that should be eaten each day. (Right now, five to nine servings are recommended, but in 2002, only about 23 percent of Americans said they ate five or more servings of fruits and veggies in a day.) The new USDA recommendations are expected to be released this month.
The AICR’s new Health-e-Recipes service will cover everything from one-pot meals to side dishes and appetizers. There will be recipes for desserts, drinks, soups, snacks and more. It also will include well-known dishes, with revamped ingredients to make them healthier. The e-newsletter will cover dishes that can be whipped up after work as well as others that take longer to cook and could be prepared on the weekend. Some of the dishes can be frozen and eaten for lunch or dinner during the week.
The recipes are approved by a team of recipe developers, food writers and health professionals. And each one has been tested in the AICR test kitchen.
