Man fatally shot sitting in parked car

Associated Press

SEATTLE – A 19-year-old man sitting in a parked car in the University District was shot multiple times early Tuesday when someone walked up to the car, opened the door and started firing, police said.

The car’s driver headed toward a hospital, but stopped just after 4 a.m. on the southbound Interstate 5 off-ramp at Mercer Street to call for help. Investigation of the shooting disrupted morning traffic on the busy off-ramp for three hours. Medics took the man to Harborview Medical Center, where he died, police said.

The King County Medical Examiner’s office said later Tuesday it could not yet release the victim’s name or any other details.

Police have no suspects, police spokeswoman Debra Brown said.
