Weekend glass is definitely half-full

If summer sipping is on your agenda, you’ll be happy with this weekend’s forecast.

The Spokane Ad Federation hosts its annual wine and beer tasting event, Grape and Grain, on Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute, 4000 W. Randolph Road.

The money raised is used for advertising scholarships, the national competition for Northwest District of Advertising College Students each year, and a teenage drug awareness advertising contest, called T.A.S.C.

More than 20 Northwest wineries and breweries will be featured. The event also includes a silent auction and hors d’oeuvres.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the door. They can be purchased at Vino! A Wineshop, 222 S. Washington St. and Huckleberry’s Natural Market, 926 S. Monroe St., and at www.spokaneadfed.com. For more information, call (509) 325-0701.

Honor Manz with ‘The Pour’

The Spokane Winery Association is hosting The Pour on Saturday.

There will be an auction of some of the state’s best vintages and a gourmet feast on the grounds of Arbor Crest Wine Cellars to honor the memory of Mountain Dome winemaker Michael Manz, who died in 2006. They hope to make it an annual event.

Manz was associate medical director and attending psychiatrist for Sacred Heart Medical Center’s Psychiatric Center for Children and Adolescents. He founded the BEST Program at Sacred Heart for children suffering from behavioral and emotional problems, and money raised by The Pour will support it. The Washington State Wine Education Foundation and the Davenport Arts District also will benefit.

Chefs from Catered For You, Wild Sage Bistro and Stilos will combine efforts to make dinner. More than 20 Spokane and Washington wineries will be featured. Dinner will be served at the Cliff House overlooking Spokane and the Arbor Crest vineyard.

For more information or reservations, call (509) 474-2821. Tickets can be purchased at www.thepour.info.
