Minor League Report: Monday’s Northwest League and Texas Rangers affiliate results
Northwest League
Tri-City 6, Spokane 5: Maxwell Morales’ two-run home run – a massive shot to straightaway left – helped jump start a rally in the fourth inning.
But the Tri-City Dust Devils (12-13) jumped on three pitchers in the first two innings for six runs and the Spokane Indians (14-11) comeback fell just short in the second of a three-game Northwest League series at Avista Stadium.
Spokane maintained a one-game lead over Everett in the North Division.
Morales finished 2 for 4 and Luis Asuncion went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and fell a homer short of the cycle.
Starter John Matthews, the Texas Rangers’ eighth-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft out of Kent State, gave up three runs on four hits and recorded four outs. His replacement, Juan Castillo, walked three in one-third of an inning and gave up a run and a hit.
Everett 7, Vancouver 3: Miguel Perez drove in three and the visiting AquaSox (13-12) beat the Canadians (6-19). Starter Nate Fisher struck out four over five shutout innings for Everett.
Salem-Keizer 9, Eugene 7: Alexander Canario keyed an eight-run second inning with a solo home run and a two-run double and the visiting Volcanoes (17-8) held off the Emeralds (10-15). Eugene’s Chase Strumpf hit his first professional home run. S-K is two games up on Hillsboro in the South.
Boise 3, Hillsboro 0: Frederis Parra struck out five over six shutout innings and the visiting Hawks (13-12) blanked the Hops (15-10). Parra gave up four hits and didn’t walk a batter. Eziquiel Tovar drove in a pair of runs for Boise.
Texas Rangers affiliates
Nashville (AAA): Off for Triple-A All-Star Game.
Frisco (AA) 14, Corpus Christi 1: Yonny Hernandez went 2 for 4 with four RBIs and the RoughRiders (39-47) handled the visiting Hooks (41-46). Preston Beck clubbed his 10th homer, Andretty Cordero added three hits and starter Ronald Herrera (1-2, 7.99) struck out four over five innings for Frisco.
Down East (High-A) 3, Myrtle Beach 1 (6): Curtis Terry went 3 for 3 with a solo home run, J.P. Martinez hit a solo shot as well and the visiting Wood Ducks (61-28) beat the Pelicans (30-56). Terry is hitting .369 with four homers in 18 High-A games this season.
